"My 3 year old has received both speech and occupational therapy from this office for roughly a year. My child’s daycare recommended services and I would be lying if I said I wasn’t skeptical about my child needing speech and occupational therapy. With this being said, the support and kindness we have both received from the staff is overwhelming. They really care for my child and his progress and growth. This is undoubtedly reflected in my son’s improvement with both speech and behavior- he was initially falling well behind his peers in speech development mile stones and he had began getting so overwhelmed with his emotions (especially when he wanted to communicate something and couldn’t figure out how) that he would have inconsolable meltdowns. Now he has an extensive vocabulary and can repeat nearly any word you throw his way. The ability to communicate effectively alone has improved his behavior immensely and cut down on toddler meltdowns but in addition to this, with aid from his occupational therapist, he has went from throwing himself in the floor, hitting, and even biting to communicate he was upset to identifying his feelings and emotions and being able to regulate them with my help- they have not only aided my child with these things but they provided me with a whole mommy tool box of new knowledge and skills to aid him myself. Strongly recommended to any parents looking to find a local resource for their little one."
"Went here for inner ear, and my expectations were very low. I wasn’t there fifteen minutes total. The therapist knew exactly what to do. I had been suffering with car sickness for two or three years, dizziness every morning getting out of bed. Since going here for treatment, I haven’t had any dizziness, and am finally able to ride to Sparta, or down the mountain without wanting to throw up. I definitely recommend the inner ear therapy to anyone suffering these symptoms!!!"
"The physical therapy department of Ashe Memorial Hospital is absolutely outstanding. I was referred to the hospital for aquatic physical therapy after a year and a half with another office. I worked with Bill Coggin twice a week in the Mountain Hearts pool. Where the other office had gotten me back on my feet, Bill helped me truly walk again. As I regained my strength we had several sessions of "land therapy" that complimented the work in the pool. When I graduated from physical therapy I received a complimentary month at the Mountain Hearts pool to continue my physical therapy on my own. I am now a member at Mountain Hearts. One of the ongoing benefits of working with the hospital physical therapy department is that I see their aquatic therapists working with others Monday, Wednesday, and Friday when I am there. If I ever have a question regarding my ongoing work for my back, I am able to talk to either of them between patients and ask for suggestions. They are always very encouraging and helpful. Aquatic physical therapy is just one of the specialties that Ashe Memorial offers. We are exceedingly fortunate to have this option available to us as well as having such amazing physical therapists who are knowledgeable, professional, and caring."
"I love this place and the staff— Pt and OT - Judy, Seth, Brian are AMAZING PTS. I would wait a month or more to see any of them. ( fortunately I don’t have to) Kate the OT is also wonderful. IMHO this department is the best part of the entire hospital. Shout out to Tasha in reception who is great at her job, friendly, polite and never gets huffy when I inevitably forget when my appointments are and keep calling to remind myself. Would recommend this department 100% ."
"My daughter started OT some months ago. for behavioral and sensory issues. she also has a lot of feeding issues and all I can say is what a joke it was and how rude all the staff was. When I had to call and reschedule an appointment they called CPS on me. yet multiple times we went up there to our regular scheduled days for them to stare at us walking in , let us sit there for 15 minutes then say "you aren't on the schedule your supposed to be but you're not for whatever error one of us must of made." so even though I work at night and have to pick my daughter up early from afternoon care which are the few hours i have to sleep - oh its no big deal. but when I call ahead and cancel and appointment they felt that warranted a dss call. so for about 10 minutes she would try new foods and for about 45 she would do pointless activities like crab walking in the gym, rocking side to side on a yoga ball, making slime, or putting beads in putty and then finding the beads. Not sure why these services are even an actual real life thing but there's that. So then they call dss on our very last visit and say my daughter had no shoes and a mouthful of candy, well we told them she was wearing brand new shoes that day and they were giving her blisters on her ankles , so obviously not going to make her walk around in those , and she just had to go barefoot in the hospital of all places and then go home. It was super warm outside that day as well. The candy in her mouth was out of the bowl they keep in the reception area so why even put it out of kids shouldn't be eating any of it.... So today we go for our appointment and instead of them calling us yesterday to see they no longer wanted to see her, once again we went to our regularly scheduled appointment where we sat in the waiting room for 20 minutes, every staff acknowledging that we were there , then finally someone walks over to inform us that until I can take her to OT without all the back and forth between my mom and me taking her (again I work at night, single mom here, if i was married would my husband be able to help me or would that be against the rules and unstable as well???)"
