Reviews of Southern Village Apartments
"Safe, well-maintained, friendly, convenient and all-together pleasant"
"Was looking for a quiet location close to some shops and eateries and found this place ! Love the location, super quiet and clean! Beautiful and neatly done landscaping, however the inside of the unit was a bit dated. I got to tour the location with a sweet girl( Makayla) who was quite impressive and knowledgeable. The entire staff here are so sweet and accommodating but the apartments are not what I was looking for. I feel they could use a bit of an upgrade . There was no walk in shower, which is needed for us. They even have the old school ceilings ( popcorn I think it's called). Sucks, because the staff are awesome but the apartment reminds me a little of senior living. Location:5 stars Quiet: 5 stars Cleanliness:5 stars Staff: 10 stars Apartment: 3 stars and that is what I based my review on."
"I’ve lived here for almost one year now with my cat and hearing guide dog in a wonderfully ADA-accessible first-floor 2 bed, 2 bath apartment and could not have asked for a better experience. The staff are delightful, especially Pat, one of the maintenance gentleman. If you have a problem, I jokingly tell new people that you should be dressed and ready before you call it in/request assistance in the portal because they’ll be showing up quickly! If it’s a problem that can’t be solved immediately, they are very timely and communicative about when and how the issue is going to be resolved. I was especially impressed with the preventative maintenance schedule-replacing air filters, insect spraying, testing alarm systems, etc. Neighbors are courteous and kind, and the area is very safe and quiet. I’d say the population is mostly young professionals like me (healthcare, higher education, business etc.) and retired older folks. This is not a college student party community or one with loads of children. I appreciate the closeness to the main circle of Southern Village to shop or dine when I want without compromising on the security and privacy of my home. I would highly recommend this community to personal friends, family, or colleagues! I’ve attached a few photos of small but important amenities that I was looking for in an apartment that I thought could help sway others! It’s easy to find pictures of major amenities, but the little things are what makes Southern Village stand apart, in my opinion. The first two pictures are in the laundry room. I love the storage above the machine hookups and the extra storage shelves for cleaning supplies, household items like toilet paper, etc. These shelves are separate from the pantry- this is something extra for those like me who like to buy in bulk from Costco! The third is of the deep walk-in closet that can fit so many bulky items, like my Christmas tree, wheelchair, suitcases, etc. And lastly, my guest bathroom has an opening under the right side of the counter that is the perfect place for my cat’s litter box! It’s hidden out of the way but still easy to get to for cleaning. There are many more of these small details, but the few I shared helped me make my decision to go with Southern Village on top of the more obvious amenities."
"I wish I could give this place 0 stars. It's overpriced and the staff are terrible. My biggest issue is with the manager Carly Huff and the office staff member Makaylah Hunter-Toney. They are beyond rude and unkind. Just while I was in the office I overheard Makaylah raising her voice on the phone to a resident and talking down to them. Absolutely unprofessional and is never acceptable. Carly is never friendly and expect lots of emails from her nitpicking everything about the community and residents without actually doing anything to make the community better. In no way do the staff do anything to make your living experience here enjoyable. They've been so rude to me that I dread all interactions with them. The apartments themselves are ok- they are aging. Lots of problems with roaches and ants, despite contacting the office many times about this they don't care about pest control. And with residents leaving their trash outside the door nightly the bugs are a problem. For as much money as southern village charges you could be in a nice apartment in a better part of chapel hill."
"Such a wonderful experience was to be here. We came from Italy and the apartment had everything we needed. The ladies at the office were very useful and helped us through all the moving in process. The neighborhood is very nice and quiet. We loved the long family walks during the sunsets, and you could go to the school, playgrounds, the supermarket, find restaurants and a café only by foot. We made good memories in that apartment, feeling very comfortable. We were new to the American customs and the guys from maintenance were very kind and professional. Next time we return, we will choose this apartment complex again, without a doubt!"
