"Rudest property manager ever!! He made me feel like I was below him. For the quality of the units which I have been in they are making it very difficult for people to come in to the community. Also they lie they told my friend she was 4th on the list then she went back and he told her she was 8th. Never go here"

"I lived there because I worked at the VA hospital and it is right behind the VA, a very convenient 5 minute walk. Also good if you are a veteran and use the VA for medical care, or have a loved one who is a patient. The basic cable is free so that was a plus. The rent was cheap for Asheville. They have “free” tables where people place items that you can have. Once a year they sell items that have been donated very cheap. It’s very close to Ingles (a 15 minute walk, downhill) and you can catch a bus at the VA. There’s a swimming pool and a small library. The bottom floors sometimes have water leaks in the ceilings. People moving in and out, or smoking might be right outside of your window, so make sure of which apartment you are getting. The smoking area is right outside of the front door, so use a side door if you don’t like smoke. There are laundry room’s so no washers and dryer’s in apartments. I would have enjoyed it more if I had been on the top floor because there is a great view of the mountains. Also for $100 more I could have had an extra bedroom and lots more space. Your experience really depends on which building you live in, and who your neighbors are."

"In September 2018 I applied to live in these apartments after a long search for something I can actually afford without having a roommate. Looking at the pictures on line I was hesitant because it looked like an institution with about 900 units. I did not want to live around so many people nor did I want to move from north Asheville. Times got tough and paying 650.09 seemed manageable to me. To cut to the bones of this review, this building is the old VA hospital built in 1926. You have to appreciate architecture and the history of old buildings to be drawn here. Please know that there will be a waiting list for you to even be offered an apartment. It took me almost 6 months for an apartment to become available. I’m guessing it’s because the rent is in expensive and people stay long term. They don’t really let you look at the unit until ones available if what I understand they’re all different. At the time I was looking for the apartment and put the $35 application fee and Bert and Cindy worked in the office. For some reason Cindy left April 2019 however she was very diligent about getting me the apartment that I wanted staying in constant communication with me by phone as well as excepting my presence whenever I would pop in to her office just to follow up with any available units . On March 19 I finally signed my lease on a one bedroom the smaller one bedroom. Which by the way is the same price as the larger one bedroom. I only had to pay a $300 security deposit which is refundable. Since I have an emotional trauma animal I was waived the $400 pet deposit and I am not required to pay pet rent. If you don’t have proper documentation from your doctor then be prepared to pay $400 nonrefundable pet deposit and you’re only allowed one pet per unit . Upon move-in Bert did a walk-through with me she’s the office manager. My unit is in the B building which is a very very quiet building I have new paint and new carpet throughout. I was very pleased moving into this unit and now it feels like home and I could imagine living anywhere else right now the meet is people are wonderful they are very attentive they get things done the respectful of my cat and keep the door shut so she doesn’t get out my neighbors are awesome some of them have been here for years. The laundry facilities are nice there’s an elevator and a huge swimming pool that opens on memorial weekend. I was very pleased moving into this unit and now it feels like home and I could imagine living anywhere else right now the meet is people are wonderful they’re very attentive they get things done the respectful of my cat and keep the door shut so she doesn’t get out my neighbors are awesome some of them have been here for years. The laundry facilities are nice there’s an elevator and a huge swimming pool that opens on memorial weekend. This is a very old building so there is a little bit of an odor in the hallways but that’s to be expected but the unit some selves are nice at least mine is. There’s no assigned parking so you park wherever I park in the back so I can see my vehicle outside of my living room window there are security cameras that all the entrances which makes me feel safe and secure. I could not find pictures of the units on the Internet so I’m gonna post pictures of my unit so you kind a have an idea what the place looks like. I’ve been here almost 2 months so far so good."

"It's safe, great location and cheap. Cheapness comes at a high price. Very difficult to get things fixed, consistent water leaks and mold issues. Lots of patching and never completely fix anything. Lots of inspections, and focus on individual units, but carpet in hallways are atrocious, except in main entrance of main buildings. Walls in hallways are deplorable and amenities are almost nothing. Would not recommend anyone to live there at all........old, old building not being kept up. It's a shame, it could be a really great place to live if the owner would invest real money into the property."
