"Do not live here!! Apartments have mold in them that are covered up by Sheetrock. Daughter went down and complained about the mold seeping through the walls and was told to wipe it off and they will be fine. Also, there are no sprinkler systems in any of the apartments. When u have college kids living in apartments, sprinkler systems should be mandatory. Also 24 hrs before she was to move out she was told that she owed a $500 sublet fee because she sublet the apartment. They never said anything about it during the final walkthrough and when she did all the paperwork to move out. Very unprofessional and I do not recommend. They are only out for your money"
"Terrible place to live and would consider anywhere else in Cullowhee before living here. They have a mold problem and told us to just wipe it off the wall and it would be okay."
"Terrible living conditions. Owners a lying fraud. Landlords a convicted felon. (multiple times) I promise you'll regret deciding to live at laurel oaks."
"Left this place on good terms (finished lease and was fully paid) and even recieved my deposit only to find out years later that L.O. had charged my credit for over 500 dollars with no explanation. I contacted then and found out that new management had taken over the month I left. They seemed very sympathetic at the time. Now, the property manager avoids my calls and has not helped in any way to resolve the issue even after admitting during our first encounter that I "wasn't the first to have this sort of problem." Apart from that, the units were extremely overpriced compared to similar spaces in the area. Bottom line, this place is just a bad deal, even if it was managed properly. Please heed this warning and do not rent here."
"It's been almost a year since my lease ended with Laurel Oaks Apartments, 4214 Little Savannah Rd, Cullowhee, NC 28723 and I still have not gotten my security deposit. It was $740 at the time I rented, Sept 2015. Minus carpet fee ($80) I am still due $660 for the deposit. I asked for the refund when I stopped by last month, March 3rd, 2016, and she says the accountant is in New Jersey and it has to come from them. This is sketch. I understand they are busy and I try and take that into consideration. But she is just not returning the calls. And I have made several, just to follow up! As I was leaving she starts apologizing and saying don't feel its just you there others having the same issue. She starting asking for my address again to forward it to. I gave you a self addressed/stamped envelope!! Come on lady! (this was this past January) Its April 1, 2016 now and she is yet to follow up with the accountant to get me my refund. $740 is what I gave when I moved in, that's a lot of money. They are not taking their lease seriously. The contract states that after 30 days I am due for the refund. And I don't know why others are having the same issue. Its obvious she knows whats going on and is not doing anything about. I filed a complaint with several agencies and looking forward to getting the refund back. Positive: The place is right by the school, if you need a place it will work out. If you don't have a car Its walking distance. You got a shuttle if necessary. Laundry on site. Plenty of parking. They are strict with rules but some people still disobey. The managers tends to be very responsive when you are on-site. Once you are out of the lease it can become difficult. Obvious: The walls are fairly thin, and even though they are tough on curfew rules you will hear stuff from neighbors above you and below you. Not to mention others will hear from your room as well. Some of the tenants are college students and some are not. I would say 50/50 from my experience. You can find cheaper places elsewhere. Now with more developments out in Cullowhee Laurel Oaks Apartments may take a hit cause of cheaper rates. So I would not be surprised they may start or showing difficulties. If you need a place to choose, find the lesser of two evils. A lot of places out here try to "survive" so they will pull stuff. WCU needs to start providing some advice and help in regards to housing."
