"Nice quit place to live wilkes community College right beside with a nice walk river scenic area"
"I have lived at Windermere 1 Apts for the last 6 years. The complex was built in the 80's I believe. This is an income based apt complex. This is great for people on a fixed income like I am. I'm on disability so I have limited income to live on. My rent is low & helps me be able to live without starving or going without most things you need to live a full life. There will be a waiting list you will be put on once you fill out an application. The application is very long & goes into great detail. It will help to fill out every detail asked for on the application. You have to provide all bank information that will be asked for so your income can be determined by the income you make. It's a lot to provide but needed to get your name on the list. The complex is located on the left, before the entrance to Wilkes Community College. The Greenway system of walking paths is right below us in the college. This is great for anyone who enjoys walking for exercise or pleasure. There is a duck pond that is very nice & I've seen people fishing at the pond. Merlefest is held at the college every spring, the end of April. This is a great time for everyone. We at the apartment complex have a great time because we can hear the music loud & clear. I personally don't listen to much country music, being a rock lover but I've enjoyed the festival immensely. The atmosphere, the music, the people who come from all over the US & Canada combine to make the festival such a great time for me & my neighbors. I sit on my deck & enjoy the different performers. Even though I can't see the stage, I can hear the music clearly. It's really loud & clear. Such a fun time for everyone. When I don't want to listen anymore I go inside my apt. I have never seen any trouble at the apartment complex. I have felt completely safe living here by myself. I have great neighbors in my building & we watch out for each other. The place is quiet, peaceful & a good place to live. There is no trouble here that I've seen or heard of. We have a great manager who is easy to talk to. We have a great maintenance man who is really nice & can fix anything that breaks in the apartment. The apartments are dated, without dishwashers, ice makers, or washer/dryer hookup. There are 2 laundry rooms to use with washer & dryers that you pay to use. But even though we don't have those great needed comforts in our apartments, the apartments are big, & comfortable with good storage. My advice if you are considering this place is to get your application in to get on the waiting list.. Applying is free, it's the waiting list that can be long. The sooner you apply the greater your chances of getting a place to call home."
"Horrible management company. Does not make repairs. Allows delinquents to rule the property. Don't think the police will help you either. Neighbor caught the gutters on fire with a cigarette ("not allowed" within 25 ft of building) and was not evicted. Was instead allowed to stay and harass us for reporting the fire. The apartments are nice, but they are not worth the hassel."
"I have lived here a little over a year. There have not been any partying college kids and most of the tenants stay to themselves. I chose to be here because I enjoy being close to many things in walking distance. My grandkids live with me and they feel safe. There could be some improvements (thats anywhere) to different areas, for example, a space to use for families to use for dinners, birthday parties or meetings. I am where I want to be."
"Despite the human element, partying college kids, drug dealers, drug users and so on, I liked my apartment the 4 years I lived here. That is until someone bought the section that I lived in and decided to make "renovations". I can't even begin to describe how horrible myself and other tenants were treated because of this new owner and the so called renovations. The new owner was only concerned with the government funding they could skim off the top while the incompetent job foreman exclusively hired illegal immigrants who couldn't speak english, Everyday for over 6 months we lived with crews, who were given keys to each and every apartment, barging in without knocking, without giving us any notice whatsoever. They expected us to drop everything, drop our lives so they could do their pathetic, shoddy work. My apartment, my life, my work was in a constant state of chaos. They damaged property including nails in my vehicle tires. I came home to my apartment door standing wide open on several occasions. Other tenants had things stolen and were even threatened by management! Someone was pocketing some money over this deal. It was so bad and extreme that not only did I seek counseling but I had to move out of my home! Several other tenants moved out as well. We had no other choice as no one would listen to our complaints even local housing inspectors who I'm sure skimmed some as well. I have never been treated so badly, constantly harassed, and demeaned so much in my life. Not feeling safe in my own home because someone decides to play dollhouse is nothing short of insane. DO NOT APPLY HERE unless you want insecurity and trouble. Just because those who live here cannot afford to live elsewhere they think they can treat them however they like. PATHETIC!"
