"I felt like I have just visited Narnia, and I only had to drive 45 min to get there. I just visited the Hostel of the Mountain and had quite the adventure. Parking was a puzzle, but I figured it out. (Don't park in front of any gates, the neighbors need access to their cattle!) I hiked the 2 1/2 mile in the rain and followed a babbling brook along a good portion of the trek. Between the first and second gate there is mountain cow grazing fields, so I caught some neat misty shots of some steers w my I phone. I hike every weekend and this was a solid work out for me, so be sure to where good shoes. I followed the switch backs which appeared to be former logging roads and noted 5 different colored azaleas before I reached the lodge. I only hiked in trail snacks, but as I arrived at dinner time they had already prepared a portion in anticipation of my arrival. The staff was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the wildlife and after dinner we played cribbage by candle light. They even had an old time piano that seemed to match the 19th century barn which has now been renovated into the Hostel main lodge. It was so quiet! But I did hear some Bard Owls, Coyotes, and Bats all in one night stay. Wow. I give it 2 thumbs up and think that the views were breath taking and magical!"
