"My family and I have been coming to this hotel for over 20 years now every time we come into town we stay here. We made reservations to stay here this time for a funeral and one the rooms that we had reserved was found to have roaches in it. I went to the desk clerk and asked for a new room and informed him why and he was hesitant to switch my room stating that because the person that checked in the room was already there for 4-5 hours and never said anything about bugs being in the room then he couldn’t do anything I said well she hasn’t been here the whole time and everyone knows roaches come out at night so he got frustrated and said your reservation is not for three people it’s for two people anyway so you have to pay for additional person before I can give you a new room. I told him it’s not three people staying it’s only two people staying but we still had to pay an extra 14 dollars ok fine. Get new room I inspect it get to the refrigerator baby roaches crawling all over the refrigerator I said absolutely not I will not be staying with roaches! Went to front desk again he says are you ready to check out. I said yes and I want a full refund. It almost made me feel like we weren’t wanted and our business is not welcomed. This hotel has truly lost great customer service."
"Let me start by saying that I am a native of Athens Tennessee, and I was very happy to see that there was a nice affordable hotel in the Etowah area. My mom was recently placed in the hospital directly down the street from the red roof inn, so it was very accommodating to have this hotel in the area. I went in and alerted the desk clerk that my mom was in the hospital and that I needed a two night stay. Apparently two nights translated as “tonight”. I went up to my room and unpacked every item out of my suitcase. The room was basic and clean. Great hot shower!. I left all my sundries out on the bathroom counter and went to the hospital the following morning at 7:30am. when I returned to the hotel at 6:30 PM, I went to my room and noticed that the door was open and the bed had been stripped , along with all of my luggage and clothes and sundries from the bathroom gone!!! When I asked Sharon who was the cleaning person on the floor what had happened to my room she said I had only paid for one night. I scratched my head and returned down to the front desk. It would have been simpler to just put a note on the door saying “ please check with the front desk” as it was clear that I was returning. No one unpacks their luggage, hangs up their clothes and leaves their sundries lying out in the bathroom if they aren’t returning. I politely paid for the night retrieved my luggage but felt violated so I moved over to Fairfield Inn in Athens. Not to mention it was the worst night sleep that I’ve had in multiple months of traveling around the world. The walls were paper thin and someone kept making a great deal of noise on the third floor and the next door room had the TV blasting all night. Will just make the drive daily from Athens - will not stay here again."
"We were scheduled for 3 nights. On the second night my wife woke up to a giant roach at 1:30am. We instantly pulled up the covers to the most disgusting stained sheets and more roaches. We no longer could even try to sleep and asked for a refund. They refunded me that night and the next but would not budge on our 1st night. I feel the inconvenience of leaving at 2:00am and packing the family up to find another hotel was not too much to ask. I came back the next day asking again for the refund and all 3 stood proud to say no way as the one manager sat down on his couch, bare feet propped up on the coffee table saying you stayed night 1 no issue so no refund. Blood is boiling but this place is super gross and you can’t argue with incompetence. Nobody cleans just zoom in on the picture and you will see the built up dust. If you like the midnight friends coming around then this is your place!"
"Stayed three nights. Room was no frills, and was relatively clean except duvet was stained. No housekeeping was provided, not even towels or toiletries. A/C was noisy, paper thin walls, smoke detector missing. Hallway looks like it hasn't been vacuumed in weeks. I have stayed here numerous times over the past several years and they used to honor a special group rate for a local business, but the current staff would not. This aside, be careful to check room rates as they vary widely. Associate traveling with me was quoted one rate for his room and upon check in, rate was $20 more. Hotel clerk was totally unhelpful and when asked for contact information for owner, he refused to provide. Unless you need to stay here for its location, I would go somewhere else."
"Hotel staff was very helpful and accommodating. The beds were basic, but comfortable for some of us, which we all have our own preferences. Rooms were not the cleanest. Floors were not carpeted, which is a good thing in my book, but they were pretty dusty. Had a dead cockroach in one room and a pair of dirty socks in the other. They also do not serve breakfast."
