About Us

Tassee Shelter is a park located at 803 Ulco Drive in Franklin, North Carolina, United States. The institution is run by Friends of the Greenway, a member organization dedicated to supporting the care and enhancement of the Little Tennessee River Greenway in Macon County. FROG played a key role in establishing the scenic trail and continues to provide volunteers for trail maintenance and fundraising efforts. FROG Quarters, located on Main Street near the river, offers a Coffee Shop and Gift Shop with nature and Greenway-related items for purchase. The Greenway is a beloved community resource, and FROG is committed to its preservation and improvement. Founded in 2002, FROG operates independently from the County, relying on memberships, donations, sponsors, and grants for support. Volunteers play a crucial role in identifying and carrying out projects to enhance the Greenway. The founders of the Greenway have had a positive impact on Franklin, and it is now up to current and new members to continue their legacy. Fresh ideas and dedicated individuals are always welcome to help further the mission of Tassee Shelter and the Little Tennessee River Greenway.

"Several picking tables and benches. including several inside of the pavilion. Great place to walk, run and picnic. There were a couple of people fishing off of the bridge. Didn’t see anyone catch anything but nice little spot regardless."

"Lots of memories here! Used to live on Ulco so it was a short walk to get here! Definitely nice to hang out at and have been to several benefit runs and things held here! Access to the water and the Greenway is a huge plus!"
