The Monte Vista Hotel

"If you're looking for a nice place to stay in the Black Mountain area, you've chosen the right place. My wife and I chose the Monte Vista Hotel to host our wedding in November. We were wed in front of the gazebo and held our reception in the reception hall on the left side of the bottom floor, just beside the staircase. The hotel staff was fantastic for the entirety of the wedding, from the early planning process to the execution of the day. We had multiple family members staying on the property and they all enjoyed the experience. Monte Vista is a beautiful, historic hotel. It's within walking distance of Black Mountain's many shopping opportunities, but also has a great bar, lobby and outdoor area should you want to stay on the property. We'd easily recommend them, whether you're celebrating a major occasion like us or just looking for a nice place to spend a weekend."

"Great hotel, great atmosphere, great location. Horrible bartender. This guys never misses an opportunity to close early. We stayed there on new year’s eve. This guys closed with bar full of people begging him to stay open. He couldn’t have cared less. He was actually annoyed that the bar was full of paying customers. He needs to find a new profession."

"Stayed 5 days - On the positive side: the location is perfect - can walk to most places in Black Mountain in less than 5 minutes. The housekeeping in the Lodge was very clean. Very attentive housekeepers and responsive to our needs. Can't speak to the rooms in the inn because the lodge area is separate from the inn (however there is an indoor walkway to the lodge area). Loved the fire pit. On the negative: the front desk personnel were always on their phones and seemed to not care very much about the service they provided to us as guests. On departure, there was no coffee to get us going in the morning. The breakfast is terrible. They offer frozen Jimmie Dean breakfast sandwiches, instant oatmeal, apples, juice and yogurt - that's it and the coffee is awful. Not a real "continental" breakfast by any stretch of the term. Disappointing. Lodge rooms are sparce and the only place to sit is either on the bed or a rocking chair - no real "comfort" in the rooms. I know there are other options in Black Mountain and would probably do a search before staying there again."

"This was a great historic hotel. The room we stayed in was quaint but the bed was a bit hard, tall, and squeaky. There was a nice outdoor area with a fire pit that was warm and cozy. The continental breakfast was a bit lackluster as it just contained jimmy dean premade breakfast sandwiches, bags of oatmeal for you to make, and containers of yogurt. There was orange juice and coffee. The front desk staff were wonderful and very helpful."

"We haven't stayed here, but will be in October. The service from Phillip was great! I had to call twice for some changes, Phillip was very friendly, never made me feel like I was putting him out of his way to help me. He has a great personality and makes your feel comfortable in conversations. From the reviews, we're very excited to be staying here. The front service in helping people is most important, Phillip has made that experience less stressful. Thank you! Melissa"
