About Us
Mili Kàpi Cafe, located at 1 Bowling Green in New York City, is a unique dining experience within the Smithsonian’s National Museum of the American Indian, George Gustave Heye Center. The cafe, named after the Lenape word for "give me some coffee," offers a variety of hot and cold beverages, sandwiches, salads, and sweets featuring ingredients indigenous to the Americas. Executive chef Freddie Bitsoie has curated the menu, which includes coffee from Stumptown Coffee Roasters.
This cafe marks the first time the Smithsonian is offering food and beverage service within the museum, providing a convenient and delicious option for visitors and locals alike. The museum's mission is to foster a deeper understanding of Native peoples and promote equity and social justice for Indigenous communities in the Western Hemisphere.
Restaurant Associates, known for their quality and innovative dining experiences, operates the Mili Kàpi Cafe. The cafe is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and does not require museum admission for entry.
