"Trailhead is at 1427' elevation. Great trails as part of Blue Ridge Parkway system. Mostly hard, plenty to choose from. Parking area at trailhead is pretty rough. Just to clarify on the location. Doughton is BRP system, with several trailhead access points "at the top" along the Parkway. There are major parkway renovations going on there, with no access from the parkway north and sometimes one-lane open access from the south. This trailhead is at the BOTTOM of the park, accessible on Longbottom Road."
"Plenty of parking for a challenging 17.3 mile loop hike. Grassy Gap Fire Rd to Bluff Mtn. Trail to Cedar Ridge Trail. There are five water crossings along Grassy Gap Fire Rd with depths ranging from ankle deep to knee high if it’s wet. Primitive campground has bear boxes at each camp site for those who want to stay. The hike will be even better when the restaurant is back open this spring! Cedar Ridge Trail abuts Game Land/bear sanctuary wear orange during hunting season."
"Fantastic hike, but be prepared for some elevation."
"This is a great trail but it is not for the faint of heart. If you are in good shape then I highly recommend it."
"This is one of my favorite parks. Mainly due to the combination of challenge, choices, and views. You can start at the bottom Flat Rock Ridge Trailhead and choose from one of three challenging trails. Each has a sizable climb. At the top, the trail flattens out as you start your hike along the blue ridge parkway. The tail loops around the entire park. If you want to skip the incline, you can drive up to the parkway and park at Brinegar's Cabin and enter the trail from there for an out and back."
