Reviews of YMCA of Upper Palmetto Corporate Offices
"I like the Y but Planet Fitness is so much cheaper. I'm paying half what I paid at the Y."
"I am very disappointed in YMCA as an organization as a whole. They were originally developed to be supportive with programs being neutral of individuals of all races, incomes, physical or developmental limitations, now it's become a private gym membership and extremely expensive. They have a "financial assistance program" but that's exactly what I am referring to which isn't supposed to be a qualifying category as it is now. I loved going to the YMCA when I was a kid and where I learned to swim and weekend camps. They charge $215/week for non-members for Summer camp, don't provide lunch, don't offer a daily schedule of activities only give a broad list. It's $100 to register to even become a member. It wasn't worth it to become a member to pay less for Summer Camp only as it would only save me $103/mo. The membership is 2 years @$80/mo with very limited programs and more out-of-pocket expenses for other additional activities and cannot be used at other locations, restrictions on transfers, and more. They have made so many changes to the YMCA in my hometown as well as they had a separate one for Women and Men. It's just too much problem for them to help as profit over people is way more important in today's society."
"I was a member of the Upper Palmetto YMCA since 2006. I suspended my membership due to Covid concerns. One of the most important factors in choosing this facility was the reciprocal agreement between the Upper Palmetto YMCA and the Belmont, Charlotte, Gastonia, Spartanburg and Greenville YMCAs. I was informed that membership would only include the Upper Palmetto. I called the Belmont Y and they advised that the reason for the change was that the Upper Palmetto YMCA would not allow their members but they allow members of all other YMCAs. The Gold Hill branch has closed so there are not nearly as many classes offered. I am disappointed in this policy change."
"The security is absolutely awful! Anyone can use someone else's card to gain access without anyone checking if they are a valid member, all they have to do is put the membership card from any paying member against the bar code reader and the gate opens up for them. If you're worried about the safety of your facilities then should invest in better technology in the future."
