Reviews of Fort Mitchel
"Enjoyed spending a bit of time to visit and learn the history. Not something we knew about on our 3 other visits to Hilton Head. You will need to ask the community guard for a pass to Ft. Mitchell. It is free. As you head back out of the community, there is Skull Creek Dockside restaurant. Great food and views."
"Beautiful little spot. It’s located in a gated community, but if you let the guard know this is where you’re going they’ll give you a pass. There’s a lot of informational boards to learn the history of the fort and area."
"A nice little historical stop in a gated community. When entering we just said we were going here and they gave us a pass for our car, unfortunately that meant we weren't able to walk around any other parts of the area because it was specific to this one location. It's a nice stop though and we had it all to ourselves."
"A nicely preserved historic site that forces you to read and imagine what it would have looked like during the Civil War. A couple of cannons and some good interpretive signs make for a good experience. You need to ask permission at a security gate where you will be given a day pass to visit only the Fort site."
"More of a park than a fort. The moat is really all that is left but with that and the little bit of signage there one can get an idea of the layout. A paved path and couple of cannons(not original) help convey that it once we a fort also. It's an enjoyable stroll though."
