"This property is a 10 Star! I have traveled many places and stayed at many locations and this by far is one of the best rentals I have ever seen. The house was immaculate and beautifully decorated with all the amenities we could hope for. The mountain views spectacular and so close to neighboring towns with many shopping and restaurants to choose from. Nestled in the woods, we had all the privacy we dreamed of, yet we were close to grocery stores and local businesses. Lisa's customer service and hospitality was second to none, as she truly has a gift of a generous heart who desires to please and pamper her clients! Thank you, Lisa, we will be back!"

"Lovely place! Loves our stay, the cabin was beautifully designed, upscale and the host was very responsive. The only difficulty was getting up to the cabin for our vehicles we’re not suited for the gravel road and steep incline. We had the passengers get out of the car and walk the rest of the way up to the cabin (short walk) while the driver drove the car up."

"WoW- what a wonderful place Dougs Way is!! The pictures are very accurate but being there gave me a much better experience than I was expecting. I normally do not take the time for writing reviews but this is worth commenting. Here are some random comments: I am a woodworker and my wife is an artist. The design, layout, lighting, art work, cabinetry and furniture really fed our eyes and soul. We loved all the interesting appointments and skill put into this house! The kitchen utensils and accessories were way beyond what is normal for a house rental. Tea, spices (like tons of varieties)- even coffee beans were available for our consumption. We cooked every night and really enjoyed the kitchen. The host (Linda) was so kind and super responsive to all communication. I was impressed she had some decorations for Christmas including a decorated Christmas tree! So impressive! She offered some options for payment and the deposit refund was quick. She also has a cool PDF of things to do and places to eat! Slightly rough road good for any sedan but glad I did not bring my 911 Porsche (not sports car friendly). The maps/guidance provided were great for our navigation (GPS gets you close). It was so awesome to have use of the garage because there was a slight snowing at night. The bed was comfortable. The main master bedroom was large. The decks (both of them) had very nice views. Big glass and fun to watch for deer from inside the house (yes we saw some). We only used one bedroom but this place was big! We really want to come back in the spring and stay longer."

"We loved our stay at Doug's Way. We stayed there while attending Penland School of Crafts, a place very close to our hearts. Being architects, we chose Doug's Way because it was designed by Doug Siegler who used to teach at Penland. It is now owned by a former Penland Resident Artist who displays a lot of his fabulous work throughout the house. The house is sited to maximize the great views of Roan Mountain. The layout, architecture and the decor are unique and beautiful. The wood domed ceiling in the dining room is spectacular. It has a fully equipped kitchen (better pots than my own). It is a hefty and curvy 16 minutes from Penland but totally worth the daily journey. It was a memorable treat!"

"Vacation begins from the moment you drive up to Doug’s Way! The smell of pine and the gorgeous Mountain View is amazing! Stepping onto the covered porch from the garage made it easy to carry your luggage for a comfortable stay. The house is amazing with private bedroom suites, crisp white sheets with blankets and delightful Mountain View’s from every room. Windows are everywhere! Each space even had its own tv! This made it nice so the kids could hangout and play video games. We enjoyed the common area in a spacious kitchen that was a perfect setup for our group to cook meals when we were not taking in some of the local restaurants. The Fox & The Fig was one of our favorites. Lisa has an amazing welcome book with lots of information and places to enjoy in the region. This made our outings easy to find so we could take in the local flair. One night we built a fire in the fireplace that could be seen from both the living room and the large dining room. This was especially sweet as we played her many board games and streamed movies on the large screen TV. Wifi was fast and enjoyable. Our visit was in the winter (snow on the distant mountains added charm). Can’t wait to return in the summer and enjoy the cool decks off the back of the house. Doug’s Way is definitely a 5 star vacation rental and highly recommended. It met our budget as it had the space for several families to have privacy yet be part of the group experience. The home was clean, well stocked and far more than what we expected. We were delighted and can’t wait to return. Book it now! You will love it!!"
