"Originally booked for Sept but something came up and we had to change plans to Oct. First night we stayed in Chalet 13, due to a sleepless night and bees in the bedroom I called the next day to explain the issue, lady said she’d call me back if needed. Went to dinner that evening at the Dillard house dining and inquired about the issue while I was there. The woman said nobody can go in the chalet while it’s occupied but they were moving us to Chalet 12 and for the inconvenience provide us with late check out and free breakfast, I said okay. Lady said they have been working on the issue all week. I never got a call back so I could have known all this sooner. Chalet 12 was much nicer and spacious for our family of 5. We went to breakfast and they only paid for "free" breakfast for 2 people not all 5 of us. They did apologize for the bees. Wish I had a heads up because some people are allergic to bees etc. Both Chalets were nice and clean, rustic vibes. No other issues. Driveways are steep. Yards are nice and well kept. Only thing you’ll need is groceries and your luggage. Pots/pans/utensils/coffee maker/bedding/towels provided. Quiet loop around. We did stop at Walmart on our way in for groceries and we did utilize the grill. We also did a day trip to Tallulah Gorge! Beautiful scenery in the area. Leaves are changing which makes the colors phenomenal. Wish I’d of called the front desk day we arrived and saw bees in the room, I’d of had a much better stay. But overall I give it a 4. I’m a very understanding person, just can’t sleep with bees flying near me or any critters crawling for that matter. Only thing the chalets need is a washer and dryer if you plan for a longer stay than a few days."
"We stayed in Chalet 21. It's the largest of the chalets sleeping up to 14 people. We were a family of 12. As others have mentioned, the chalets have had no updates in many, many years (if ever)! The furnishings are all old as well. In our house that holds 14 our dining room table only had 3 chairs! There was a coffee pot, but no coffee or filters. The TV on the main floor wasn't hooked up to anything. The wood on the balcony was falling apart in places. They had non stick cookware but all metal utensils so all of the pans were scratched. We enjoyed our stay together but probably would not stay again."
"My wife and I stayed in one of the small chalets 20 years ago and recently decided to visit again. It was obvious that the small A-frame chalet has changed very little in the 20 years. Upon closer inspection the place looked ratty and was filled with thrift store furnishings and outright amateur homemade carpentry furnishings. The chalet was reasonably clean except for toothpaste splatter all over the wall next to the bathroom sink and mildewy luggage racks in a mildewy smelling closet. A small stack of firewood was supplied on the deck. There was one worn loveseat and a couple stiff back chairs to sit. It's obvious the interior furnishings supplied here shouldn't even be considered for any paying customers outside of cheap weekly motels in the inner city, but here they are. I'm not expecting luxury confort, but I expect more than completely worn out, old, cheaply made furnishings. I'm talking WORN OUT. There's holes here and there around the place, there's 50 feet of coaxial cable coiled up in the corner. There is one lamp connected to a light switch outlet that only works when the overhead light is turned on. The fireplace screen is so worn I had to wear gloves to move it as it's rusty, sharp and will cut your hands. So basically, this chalet is a 1/2-notch better than a total dump. To make matters worse, late one evening I noticed the water did not work. Upon calling the front desk I was told the well went dry, the pump is slow, the tank was empty... something along those lines of excuses. Excuses a-plenty. Nevertheless I was not notified there was a problem, so there were no bathroom and shower privileges on this night. The water was back on around 5am the next morning. To add to the list of details the Dillard House Chalets apparently do not consider, there is one tiny waste basket inside, but no extra trash bags. Upon checkout I complained about the water and received a whole 10% off one night. The front desk manager was so nonchalant at my complaining she just mumbled "this stuff happens, it's not unusual". So, no water for the night is apparently "not unusual" at the Dillard Chalets according to staff. One thing The Dillard House has plenty of is excuses for their slack operations. If you are indeed gullible enough to stay here you should consider packing an extra bag with cleaning supplies, a couple gallons of water to flush the toilet with, and maybe a comfortable chair to sit on. I laugh now about it because the chalet was so pathetic, but make no bones about it, they'll never get a dollar from me again."
"Had a wonderful time. Friendly and helpful staff. Chalets are not updated, but they are clean and stocked. Chalet 5 was great. It doesn't have an ice maker, so bring ice trays or grab some from the store. Presently the trout pond doesn't seem to have many or any trout and the pool on the grounds is unusable, but the one on the main grounds is. Cooking is easy in the chalet, but you may need to being some pans or casserole dishes. There are plenty of nice restaurants in the area, Piggly Wiggly and Dollar General are less than 5mins away too. Only 2 rockers on the main porch make it hard to hang out without bringing your own. The upstairs balcony has no chairs, but a beautiful view. We will be coming again, a little more prepared next time."
"Beautiful property. We stayed in the 3 bedroom house and it was clean, spacious, and well maintained. The property was beautiful! Managed to catch a few small fish in the pond during our stay. Housekeeping visits daily (something that would've been nice to know in advance) and were friendly and helpful (I had already cleaned most of the house). The Dillard House is right down the street and they offer a restaurant, horseback rides, petting zoo, distillery, and more."
