"I took my cockatiel there to establish care and let them know that he has seizures with a towel. They did not listen and attempted it anyways. The doctor never introduced himself or even got up from his chair while my bird was seizing and i had to catch him in the room. It was incredibly traumatic, infuriating and unacceptable. Avoid taking your bird there at all costs."
"Dr. Burkett and staff offer excellent care for feathered family members. My husband and I are new to birds; we accepted a rescued Dove into our lives about a month ago. We purchased Dr. Burkett's book, which was an amazing help to someone new to bird care! I am thoroughly impressed with his experience, his credentials, and his accomplishments in the field of avian veterinary medicine. I just knew I just had to have any bird in my care become a client of his. Before I could schedule wellness exams for my new doves, I thought one dove was coming down with an illness. I did my best 'bird nursing' for a few days before his appointment and was concerned that he would be gravely ill- too ill to save. At the appointment Dr. Burkett eased my mind within moments. He told me Turnip looked fine and ran a fecal test, which came back clear. With our being new to bird care and my heart for animals, Dr. Burkett could have executed as many unnecessary diagnostic tests as he wanted and I would have agreed. However, he only did what he thought was necessary and certainly didn't exploit my novice or emotional attachment to little Turnip. Before I left I scheduled wellness appointments for both doves and two pigeons. I am happy to patronize Dr. Burkett's practice and business. I am grateful that he is able to provide care for my feathered family members."
"Well the nurse and lady up front are very nice and friendly, but! The doctor him self has the personality of a boot. The nurse kept asking him to quick look while my duck was doing his weird behavior with his neck and the doctor would not listen or even pay attention. Then after comes over with a huge list of tests and huge prices while not explaining why or what any of them were for. Spent the whole time telling him my diagnosis or things I’ve seen the duck do and all he’d say is “that’s possible” complete waste of my time. Not worth the 1.5 hour drive. I know animals and vet bills can be a pain, but if I’m going to pay you , atleast explain why you’d like to run tests and not leave it to me as to what to look for. Again , great nurses and staff. But the doctor has the personality and social skills of a wet sock. So 400$ later and all I got was , you choose what to look for and “possibly”"
"Dr. Burkett is one of the most knowledgeable veterinarians I have ever met. When my usually-very-active-and-tough-acting chicken became sick, he immediately knew what was wrong with her and she was cured of her dust mites in about a week! Also, there was one time a young cockerel of mine became sick overnight and didn't make it before I could take him to Dr. Burkett, but even though he never even had this chicken as a patient, he sent me a condolences card and it just made me feel so much better about what had happened! If you ever need to take your bird to the vet, please take them here!"
"I never intented to grow attached to my backyard chickens. But when my top hen, Fantastic, fell ill last year, I crafted a makeshift cage and drove her over to The Bird Hospital. Dr. Burkett was wonderful: he provided thorough explanations of his testing procedures and diagnosis, demonstrated how to medicate my ill bird (which wasn't intuitive to me!), shared delight in Fantastic's funny and bold personality, and followed up via phone to get a sense of her progress. As a relatively new chicken owner, I gained knowledge and confidence about how to better care for my flock (which Fannie, I'm happy to stay, is still directing with vim and vigor)."
