"BCBSTN has a new prescription policy that certain meds need to have pre approval from BCBSTN or you will have to pay full price. Doctor sends in over a week ago and still not authorized. Been taking this med for a while and now there has to be some authorization. Certain meds are necessary to manage and function in daily life. I don’t understand this. Employer insurance next call is to HR to voice frustration."
"Wow! I have been reading these reviews and I am shocked. I have BSBS as a supplemental to my medicare. I chose plan F. It costs more but, if you use your insurance often, it's worth it. I have had so many expensive surgeries, tests and I have never been denied and it was no problem getting the surgery or procedure approved. In fact, I have had to use my insurance so often that I feel bad for BCBS. I just can't figure out why so many people are having problems with it. I feel bad for people and especially the woman with cancer. I have never used Vanderbilt hospital but, many of my doctors are Vanderbilt doctors. I have never had any problems, at all, getting coverage for them. I am very happy with BCBS. I wish the others had had the same experience."
"poor customer service for the providers. I waited on the phone line for 15 min to talk to someone about the claim issues. Very low payment with only $ 85 for new patient evaluation and treatment session. Most psychiatrists have decided not to take this insurance due to poor payment and bureaucratic business running."
"For the last four months, my wife has been in horrible back pain. She has been through epidural injections, which provided no help. Her Neurosurgeon filed for precertification to perform surgery. The claim was filed and denied over 3 weeks ago!!! Our Neurosurgeon has requested a peer to peer review three weeks ago. NOONE FROM BCBS WOULD RETURN HIS CALL OR OUR CALL!!! It wasn’t until we left our last message that if our doctor or my wife did not hear from someone, we would seek all remedies available. So, after three weeks, we finally had a response to our doctor, but conveniently, our case manager said our phone wasn’t working. Of course, she said we gave her the wrong area code!! This whole episode has just been ridiculous and it all boils down to the utter incompetence of our case manager!! I feel like one star is extremely generous!!"
"I am a breast cancer patient who was being treated at Vanderbilt. I received a letter from them advising that BC/BC refused to sign another contract with them. I had until the end of December to find another provider, however no one would accept my insurance. I had no way to follow up or make return appts with my Oncologists or other physician's. My PCP order a mammogram, as it had been over a year, at a local hospital. The results of the mammogram and ultrasound were abnormal. Now what ? Everytime I see a specialist it is $ 40.00. I simply cant afford it. BC/BC should be ashamed of themselves, there are hundreds of patient's like me. Most providers feel the decision to severe ties with Vanderbilt was selfish and politically motivated. So ..... in the meantime I have no way to obtain a biopsy, MRI, surgeon or Oncologist. Negligence comes to mind."
