"I met Dr. Kara Criswell and her team in January 2022 to discuss her performing my reconstruction surgery following a double mastectomy related to cancer. My surgical oncologist did his magic in April 2022 and performed my double mastectomy and during the same surgery, Dr. Criswell performed her magic. That surgery involved the reconstruction of my breasts and the placement of temporary tissue expanders. In December 2022, Dr. Criswell performed the final step of my reconstruction, which involved exchanging the expanders for permanent silicone implants. Going through the process was emotionally traumatic because losing my original breasts wasn’t something I planned on. With that said, Dr. Criswell and her team were kind, compassionate, and empathetic. Throughout the entire process, they made themselves available to answer questions and check on me through phone calls from her nurses as well as e-mails. I also had regularly scheduled appointments to check on how things were going from beginning to end. I was provided with detailed post-operative care instructions by Dr. Criswell’s team, which were very helpful in ensuring a smooth and uneventful recovery; this was in addition to what was provided by the hospital care team when I was discharged. Dr. Criswell told me what I could expect from the surgery and the results have exceeded my expectations. From a “cosmetic” perspective, I have minimal visible scarring and I think my breasts look as natural as they could possibly look following the double mastectomy. I have had many scheduled follow-up appointments with Dr. Criswell and her team and have been pleased with all of them; I will continue to have follow-ups in the future with Dr. Criswell and her team because that is the standard of care for my situation. I have nothing but positive feelings about the care I received from Dr. Criswell and her team, and about the outcome of my reconstruction surgery."
