"After 2 botched surgurys by Dr figler, I have no working genitals and have to have atleast 2 more to correct, if it can be corrected. Tried to get the admin office to help, they said they would have someone call me and call back if no one reached out. I called them back, was advised to get a lawyer. 2 Days later, unc hospital police called to say that if I called admin again, they would charge me with felony harassment. They are the admin, I have an issue ....but it's harassment to call about the issues when I'm told to call. My lawyer will be hearing about this"
"Dr. Cope was my urologist for years and our family loves him for his kindness and compassion. When he joined with UNC in Hillsborough very little changed, but after he left the service at first from Dr's seemed a bit rushed. Now several years later I'll be seen by nurse practitioners unless it's a procedure. I have no complaints about any of them at all, nice, personable, professional and thorough. Seeing a Dr. seemed a rush and felt impersonal. At the moment I have been waiting for a surgery for stones to be removed, almost three weeks so far. I don't blame the front desk folks nor the nurses or doctors. I do blame the surgical schedulers for not being trained better, being too busy etc. With this kind of response I may consider another urologist in the near future."
"I honestly cannot speak to the quality of the Doctors because I could never get anyone to a) answer the phone or b) call me back. I made three or four attempts over the course of a month to schedule an appointment, and each time got the same voice mail box promising a call back within 48 hours. It's been a month since my last voice mail and still nothing. Service doesn't get much worse than no service at all, despite more attempts than it deserved."
"I really like Dr. Borawski, but during my most recent appointment, I met with another physician who made me feel completely dismissed. I was very frustrated with the way she spoke to me, especially considering that I had waited over two months for the appointment. I also called back with an urgent question for the nursing staff, and I have been waiting five days for a call back (despite my making a follow up call). I am very unhappy with the office now that Dr. Cope has left."
"The doctors and nurses that I interacted with in my appointments were very friendly, knowledgeable, and they even had an sympathetic sense of humor when I cracked some corny "awkward-moment" jokes about the screening procedure that I had done (a rather unpleasant scoping). The Financial Support staff member, on the other hand, was not so nice. I was directed by the Doctor (Dr. Figler) and the Nurse to visit the Financial Support office after my check-out to get a quote and schedule another procedure (a long-overdue vasectomy). The attending Financial Support staff member was extremely off-putting and rude from the very get-go, as soon as I walked in to her office. I hadn't even said one word to her, yet I was greeted as though I was an inconvenient nuisance. I will not name her full name here, as that's likely not allowed on these Google Reviews, but I believe she's one of the few, if not the only Financial Support staff located there in the corner since her name-plate was on the door. It's the first office you pass on the left after you turn right out of the elevator and turn the corner to approach the check-in desk. Our 5-minute "meeting", if you'd like to call it that, ended with her giving me the estimate for the procedure and then telling me that I have to pay up-front in full (3 months in advance) just to schedule the procedure. I think that the pay in advance requirement is absolutely ridiculous first off, but I also understand that is likely just UNC Hospital's policy. However, this particular staff member presented this information to me (which was all new information for me by the way) in an extremely grumpy and disrespectful manner. This procedure (vasectomy) is a big decision for me and my family; it's something that we've really been debating and thinking about doing for several years now. I work in a customer service focused industry here in Orange County. I really hope that this "Financial Support" staff member can eventually take a training class or two in basic customer service and then try to apply some empathy to the people (not just numbers) that walk into her office every day for "support". This experience has really dampened my opinion of the entire UNC Hospital system. This particular employee might have just been in a bad mood (as sometimes everyone can be) just prior to the end of a long work day, but please, try to be a nice human next time. We're all busy, we're all stressed. Be nice to people; rudeness is absolutely unnecessary and can have real consequences in the long run. For me, the direct consequence is that I'LL NEVER RETURN TO UNC UROLOGY IN HILLSBOROUGH EVER AGAIN. I'm just one person, but I hope others read this e-mail and make an informed choice in their health care providers(s). There are plenty of other shops out there that treat their patients with kindness and respect. Thanks for reading. Chris"
