"This is the worst hospital in North Carolina!! The nurses are the worst in accute care! The nurse manager is just as bad. No call backs ever. 15 hours and no calls or answering phones! No communication at all!! No one answers the phone. I had a handicap sister there, no one called back so we could explain her needs! When I was going to report the staff, one owned up to it. Went to desk to ask for help and 4 nurses were on their phone. When they seen me they put them down at the same time! Never bathed her! I went in today and something was all spilled in floor on chair and bed and half way cleaned up! Bed was broke and they had to unplug to get the alarm to go off. Chair was broke, so they had to put a trash can under it to hold leg rest up! At 2:15 I finally asked about her lunch before she got transported to a rehab at 3-4?? They had forgotten to bring her Lunch and we’re already getting lunches up!!! The charge nurse apologized and got her lunch off the rolling cart and had to heat it up in microwave!! Mind you my sister cannot feed herself or drink alone. They promised to call when transported to a rehab and never tried to call family and let them know. I would not even give it a 1! I have cried for the 3 days she was there. It was a unreal experience! Something needs to be addressed. This is McDowell Hospital in Marion Nc"
"I wouldn’t even rate it a one. Very disappointed. The staff are rude especially the front lady desk. Threaten to call security on me but I was allowed by the nurse to be there in the ER with my cousin. The nurse spoke with her and she left me alone. I find it very inappropriate how unprofessional they are. I thought healthcare providers were suppose to be polite? I’m extremely disappointed. No one wants to be at a hospital especially not with rude staff. Mission hospital do better for your patients and visitors."
"Absolutely amazing visit at ER yesterday and that says a lot having to even be at ER. Cannot compliment the staff enough. Very very nice and attentive. Love system in place while in waiting room. Makes it seem like you've already been seen just waiting. Every single staff member from door to CT scan to getting room in back were absolutely wonderful. Great job to all. Can't thank enough."
"Best hospital ever! I hate going to any ER it takes forever and I never get good treatment. I will say that the staff at this Mission hospital are the cream of the crop. Best people ever and caring, kind, and don't throw pain meds at you!!! Found out my low potassium was causing alot of my pain!!! Simply genius level docs and nurses!!!"
"I am completely and totally impressed and happy with my stay here at McDowell Hospital. I will say "flawless!" Came via ambulance with a small bowel obstruction Saturday night at 11pm. They attended to my illness and to me 100% above and beyond any of my expectations. I have always been extremely picky about my healthcare providers. As a healthcare professional (physical therapy) I look at everything with a critical eye. I am impressed both as a peer and as a patient. I live in Morganton and my preference for a hospital is elsewhere. Probably not the smartest move, but for our emergency needs we drive over the county line to Love's truck stop and call 911. I've been told others from Burke County do the same. As soon as I was wheeled through the door, as always from past experiences here, there was a flurry of activity until they were sure I was smartly and correctly triaged! They attended to my needs immediately. They were equally concerned about my pain and nausea: that was dealt with quickly as well. The ED team was on top of of my medical emergency 100%. They quickly found what was wrong and I was admitted! They had no beds at 3 in the morning, which is not unusual at any hospital. I ended up staying in the ER. My nurse, RN Jen, brought a hospital bed down so I would be more comfortable + she dragged in one of those fancy recliners for my wife. The whole hospital team kept me up to speed throughout my treatment. In fact, they always told me what would happen several steps down the road. Regarding major and specialty healthcare needs, my family and I travel to Duke University. I feel that McDowell Hospital is equally competent. I also will dare say that my care here is equal to Duke's, and in many thing they exceed Duke - a very bold statement! I called the Duke on-call bariatric surgical fellow Saturday morning because of questions regarding my plan of care at a small rural hospital and maybe the need to go to Mission in Asheville. After he heard about the treatment l had received and their planned treatment path, he told me he wouldn't have done anything different and if I'm happy, he's happy for me to stay here and not transfer. A strong endorsement indeed - so I stayed. It has proven to be a good call. Another thing that puts McDowell Hospital over the top, beside there medical acuity, is their attention to detail and the 101 million little customer service things they do, which in turn has had a positive impact on the success of their efforts in making me well. All the staff are friendly, nice, happy, kind, courteous, competent, smart, accommodating, pro-patient, etc. Everyone, doctors to housekeeping, always asked if they could do anything and they always took care of any and all of my voiced needs. Any unvoiced needs, anticipated and fully taken care of as well. The accommodations, calling this a hospital room would be an insult, are great! Tons of things to make an unfortunate stay comfortable. I liked the shower specific IV. covering - no Tegaderm or plastic trash bag with your arm in the air hacks. A 5 star shower! I had an awesome view - the nurses told me I was lucky as this is one of the rooms with the best view. I say "flawless," but nothing is perfect, so I'll land on the universal hospital flaw - the coffee! The nurses have a coffee maker, the caf' has coffee and the coffee shop makes up for it. The coffee shop's cookies and cream frappe with 2 shots of espresso - wow! I am going home whole - which is always the desired outcome of a whirlwind emergency medical event. I am happy! So, my treatment during my stay - 100% satisfied. The competency of the medical staff - 100% satisfied. My medical care throughout my stay - 100% satisfied. The customer service (the accommodations, the attention to detail, etc) - 100% satisfied. Everything- 100% satisfied. I know this is quite the lauditory review, but it's well desired! Please note: I'm not a paid reviewer from Google, McDowell Hospital or Mission Health to up their reviews. This is my experience and impressions."
