Jacob's Nature Park
About the Business
Jacob's Nature Park at Sinking Creek is a beautiful 28-acre park located in Johnson City, Tennessee. Named in honor of Jacob Francisco, a young boy who tragically lost his life to E. coli contamination, the park aims to raise awareness of the dangers of bacteria in food and water. The park features hiking trails, wetlands, and a stream that flows through the area, providing a picturesque setting for visitors to enjoy.
The restoration of Sinking Creek and the development of Jacob's Nature Park have been ongoing efforts to reduce E. coli levels in the stream and create an educational and recreational space for the community. The park features interactive signs that teach visitors about the local wildlife and environmental conservation efforts. A bridge over Sinking Creek and a pavilion with a living roof serve as additional attractions for visitors to explore.
Located near the Tweetsie Trail, Jacob's Nature Park offers a unique outdoor experience for hikers, cyclists, and nature enthusiasts. Reviews
"Great little park for some short hikes in nature. You can find level paths near the creek as well as some paths with more of an incline adjacent to it. Parts of the park can be a little noisy due to proximity to the highway."
"Very interesting little park, It has a sad but inspiring story. The park is really fun to adventure around and experience outdoors very close to downtown Johnson City. It gives a very natural feeling, there is no concrete, asphalt, or drastically unnatural structures. We use it for a scouting events and short hikes. It was wonder because it is so close to downtown Johnson City, but it maintains that natural untouched atmosphere that you want for these types of experiences. There's a small pavilion at the back parking lot, which also has a lot more parking space, that is a really fun talking topic as it has a living roof. Kudos to all the people that maintain and take care of the park."
"This is such a beautiful park. They have benches a little trail. It's not very long but it sure is beautiful"
"Set of short trails though the woods. Very little hiking areas, and there are a few bridges to go across a running water creek. Beautiful scenery, Jacob's park has an impactful story behind it. Worth the visit, longest trail took about 43 minutes walking."
"This park is definitely a must see, it's great beauty that's inside the city limits. *WARNING* The water is not 100% clean and NEVER get in or drink from any water here. The parking lot is small but you can park at the church about 30 yards down the street. The trail systems are clean, clear, and marked well. Beautiful wild flowers are found throughout the trail. There's plenty of benches to stop and rest, along with bridges for easy access. One bridge is a bit dangerous so if you've got kids I'd recommend carefully helping them across."
