Candlewood Suites Huntersville-Lake Norman Area, an IHG Hotel

"Most of these 5 star reviews are from the owners or staff that works here to gain more attraction. I'm not too big on hygiene so this place wasn't a problem for me. Yes, there were some odors coming from the stained carpet but that's nothing a few sprays of febreeze couldn't fix. I did see some mold in the fridge and on the air units, but I carry bleach so I could fix it temporarily and just leave the room for a hand full of hours and allow the smell to fade. As far as the bug infestation, I'm more outdoors like, so it didn't really bother me to step on a roach or three, even the bed bugs genuinely didn't bite and aren't as harmful as people try to portray. I personally liked the staff, I'm a very independent person, so even though my room didn't get cleaned the two weeks I stayed after requesting it a few times, I did it myself because I'm an adult who doesn't mind working. I agree with all these fake 5 star reviews from the owners, this property is worth the time and the money if you're a wasteful person!"

"The location was great, but the staff was horrible. They kicked multiple people out during my stay, cops were called on various people. one of the staff ladies came to clean our rooms, flipped our mattress and lied on us saying we were trying to hide mold. Looking at the countless reviews on here complaining about mold, I know that they were bsing. They told us we had to leave the next day or they would call the cops. The lady at the front desk with the red hair called our room trying to start a fight and made up reasons to call. I mean literally made it up because when we went to the manager about her, the manager said that red head didn't know what she was talking about. Once we got out, I was happy, because this is the weirdest hotel experience ever."

"We were transferred there due to our hotel was overbooked. It was my understanding that it should be an equal quality hotel. Not even close!! Sheraton vs Candlewood?? Everything looked great when we got there. Nice and clean. Until I went into bathroom. Sink and toilet were clean BUT the tub looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in a year!! My husband saw spots where it was obviously had been painted in the shower. The bed was lumpy and every time you moved the springs squeaked. Not much sleep with squeaking springs and someone upstairs stomping around all night. Plus the bedside lamp wouldn’t work."

"My husband travels for work and we got booked this hotel. We usually really enjoy these types of hotels because the amenities they offer the full kitchen and the free laundry. However, as soon as we got into our room I was putting our kitchen items in the cabinet and saw a roach. Eww! Instantly I was disgusted and killed it. We have only been here two nights and they are EVERYWHERE!! Crawling on the ceiling, on the walls, kitchen counter, kitchen backsplash, desktop, floor. So so many cockroaches all different sizes so disgusting!! Not to mention the kitchen floor is so grimy and sticky not sure when the last time it was mopped. Walking barefoot or with socks on instantly turn black! Went to put dishes in the dishwasher and there is about an inch of yellow water in the bottom of the dishwasher. The bugs the dirty room just disgusting. It is really too bad that the room is so dirty and covered in bugs because the hotel does have nice big rooms, comfy beds, full kitchens stocked with the essentials needed for a short or long term stay. Maybe moving to another room will be less bugs…"

"I recently stayed at this hotel because of convenience. I checked in last Friday around midnight and as I walked to my room I noticed the carpet in the hallways was dirty and the elevator needed to be swept and mopped and there was a weird smell. ( Pictures below) The hotel needs to be remodeled and someone from corporate needs to come and stay in this hotel to see what their customers experience. When I arrived in my room I started to disinfect everything and as I walk into the bathroom I see something crawling in the shower. As I get closer I see it is a small roach. The problem is when you see small roach you know they have siblings not too far. So many questions ran through my mind why is this roach in the shower, how long has he been here, and what else did he crawl on? At this point I know I am sleeping with one eye open or possibly not even sleeping at all. I walk out the bathroom and two mins later there is something else crawling on the towel that they placed on the tub. At this point I am looking for the next hotel but it was after midnight and I was exhausted from driving. I immediately go downstairs to the front desk and ask the man at the desk if there is another room due to the uninvited guest who were not helping me with the cost of the room. I also do not like bugs and roaches are the worst kind of bugs because they symbolize dirt and filth. The man at the front desk nice enough to upgrade the room for me and while this room was clean I still did not trust it. I went through my entire re cleaning process again but still did not sleep well because I was worried something was going to be crawling on me in the middle of the night. I couldn't wait to check out of the hotel. Not to mention the curtains do not completely cover the window so there was a bright light shinning in my room the entire time. Then there was a loud humming sound that sounded like a generator that would scare the heck out of me early in the morning. Long story short I would never stay here. I am disappointed that for this hotel to be an "IHG" Brand hotel they had roaches and that the hotel is not up to date. I had to fill out a paper with my license plate info and email info. I have not done that in years. Also they need to either replace or shampoo the hallway carpet and sweep the elevator. The same dirt I saw on Friday night was the same dirt that was there Sunday morning when I checked out. What exactly do the cleaning staff do? The rooms have a weird odor from the carpet. The entire hotel just smells funky. In retrospect I should have just booked another hotel but due to exhaustion but I will never make that mistake again."
