"Pros: 1. Asked for a rooibos fog (a drink featured at the main location last year); had to explain what it was, but the server understood “London Fog but with Rooibos instead of Earl Grey” and made it perfectly. 2. Tasty pastries. Cons: 1. The interior layout at this location was clearly not given much consideration—yes, it’s a smaller satellite store, but there is not enough seating despite there objectively being room for a lot more. There are, like, six seats. 2. My companion ordered a no-frills, big standard latte. I tried some; it was tepid immediately after being served. Straight out of an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm COLD. I could have stuck my nose in it, painlessly. This is basic stuff, guys…If you have industrial Italian espresso machines in your shop, please serve coffee HOT."
"I have been a regular customer since the Guglhupf Bake Shop opened in Chapel Hill in 2017 (the main, full restaurant is up 15-501 in Durham and is also excellent). It is my favorite place for a latte, pastry or breads. Yes, there's often a line, but that's because so many people also love it. Everything here is delicious, and I will gladly wait a few extra minutes to get their baked goods and drinks. Guglhupf has the best chai lattes I've ever had. The staff is all very friendly and welcoming, even when it's super busy. I often see staff chatting with regulars too. Once, when the wrong drink was made (I may not have said my order clearly enough, so it wasn't necessarily their fault), the barista apologized and made the right drink without questioning it. Everyone is just so kind, I always leave smiling. I've tried most everything: rolls, croissants, scones, brezels, danishes, schneckes (which means snail auf Deutsch because of the spiral shape). I also got a chocolate birthday cake here. It was decadent. Everything is amazing. My favorite savory item is the cheese brezel. I recommend warming it up. And my favorite sweet item is the mandelhörnchen, which has marzipan. Yum! There are a few small tables inside and outside, and it's very pleasant to sit outside on a nice day. The parking lot is always crowded, through no fault of the business. There are a lot of other businesses for a small lot, so I always park on the other side, away from the Trader Joe's and Ulta, and never have a problem."
"Delicious! Such a wide selection of the most scrumptious goods. The cheese danish and chocolate croissant were my favorite! My son loved the ham and cheese croissant. My husband’s favorites were the pumpkin danish and cinnamon schnecke. We were only in town for about a day and am so happy we stopped in! This is a place you must visit and grab a treat… or a few… !"
"Big fan of Guglhupf + this location- The team members are extremely friendly + helpful. I always get a danish; I’ll switch it up once in a blue moon, but crave the danishes! The rotating seasonal ones are fun, but cherry + cheese all the way!! They have outdoor seating + indoor too. Highly encourage on getting there is early morning, as things sell out pretty fast."
"Lots of outdoor seating, fun menu with something for everyone. Easy to order, quick service and everything tasted great. We did have a professional baker in our group and he said the danish dough should have been a bit more buttery.. to me it was fine but I am not a baker."
