"I went to William Wilson for my first ever bespoke tuxedo and a white dinner jacket. This was a new experience for me and, honestly, I didn’t do my research beforehand to know what I needed to provide him regarding details. At the same time, I think he expected a person coming in for such a service to have an idea of what they were requesting. The result was a miscommunication producing garments that didn’t meet my expectations. The first viewing was a disappointment. That’s the background, this is the review. William is a 100% standup guy. He immediately read the situation and without hesitation said he would fix anything that I wanted changed at no cost. He repeatedly said, “I’m here to satisfy you. And I’m here to build long term customers.” That’s exactly what he did. It all fits like a glove. A lesser person could have stuck me, not William. He has built a long term customer in me."
"This one just really breaks my heart… I went to see William early June to order a tux for a December wedding… so plenty of time to get it made, altered, and make it all perfect. I was so excited! I had never bought a bespoke custom tailored suit like this before, and in William I thought I had found my guy. William is smart, funny, tells a good story. Seemed like I had found my tailor for life. He seemed to really care and take an interest in what I wanted. He spent time with me, took my measurements, and promised me he would have something in four weeks. Four weeks came and went. Not a big deal… I had plenty of time. At six weeks (mid-July) when I asked him if it was ready he said “leaving my shop next week…” After seven weeks I reached out again… he said he had been traveling (something he told me more than once)… but the pants had to be remade because the fabric didn’t match perfectly. He also asked me to remind him what I had ordered… which made me a little uneasy. I had given him a sizable chunk of money but he couldn’t recall my order. But hey… He’s a busy guy, got a lot on his plate, so I gave him a pass. After nine weeks I reached out again. No response until many days later. He claimed he had been sick and was unable to use his phone(!)… but next week he would give me a tracking number. The next week came and went with no tracking number… Then the week after… And the week after that… And by then it was September… it had been twelve weeks and I realized there was no tux. I lost faith William could deliver me anything, and even if he did, would I get any needed alterations made, and in time. What had seemed like plenty of runway to get my tux now seemed much more precarious, and I lost all confidence in William’s ability to deliver. I eventually heard from him again after my credit card company clawed back my money (thank you Chase Bank Visa, you guys rock). One day he texted me out of the blue from a different phone number I didn’t recognize… claiming he had texted me a couple times already, but I hadn’t gotten the texts… which is kinda funny because how would he know what texts I have or have not gotten?… Unless of course he had never sent any in the first place. He now claimed my tux was in. He proceeded to call and text a couple more times, gaslighting me by saying the tux had been sitting in his shop for a couple of weeks. But by then I had moved on. For $1300 I got some good stories, a handshake, and an empty promise. Not even a receipt. I am giving a two star review because I think one star reviews end up being close to meaningless. But somewhere in William there is a good person I think… he’s just not very good at this, at least not right now. Maybe he was at one time, maybe he will be in the future. Luckily because I had allowed so much time, I ended up ordering a custom tux from Indochino, and even though their shop is on the other side of the world, I had it in my hands in three weeks, perfect fit, for half the price. I probably should have paid more attention to William’s other Google and Yelp reviews, and my experience seems to fit a pattern. It’s obvious William has a rough track record… But I guess I thought somehow I’d be different, that he would come through. He didn’t. Lesson learned. As much as I’d love to “shop local” I was really disappointed in this one."
"Worst business man in Charlotte!! Purchased a custom suit upon the promise of having tons of materials to choose from. When I came back for the design meeting with my wedding planner Will "magically" forgot to bring his other sample books. A couple days after this meeting I requested a refund, as he only had limited materials and could not deliver on his promise. He is now avoiding all calls and has not refunded my money. Last communication from him was a month ago stating that his accountant is sending him a check for the refund (bunch of bs). Come on Will be a true business man and make this right!!"
"Let me start off by saying, I'm not an expert in custom clothing, but I do know this. The quality of the material that William Wilson uses to make his suits are, hands down, the best I've felt in years. The customer service is unmatched. With my overall experience at William Wilson Custom Clothier, I am now a fan of getting my suits custom made. It gives you a whole new feeling. I would definitely recommend William Wilson Custom Clothier to anyone looking to improve the way they look."
"It pains me to write this review as I want local small businesses to be successful. However, I could not in good faith ignore the problems I have had and know that others may have the same issue. On March 6, 2017 I purchased several custom shirts from William Wilson Clothing. I was told the shirts would be delivered within 3-4 weeks. After not hearing anything I left a voice message and texts. I eventually get a text from William Wilson saying they should be in late April (Almost 8 weeks after order) with no explanation. After not getting a call or text for several weeks I reach out a month later on May 22, no response. Reach out again June 5th was told via a one sentence text that items would be in last week (Week of June 12th). I finally received the items I purchased on June 23, 2017. Oddly enough, the tag on my shirts had a date of June 3rd 2017 on it. This strongly leads me to believe that my shirts were not ordered until that day (a full three months after I paid and ordered my shirts). This would explain why I received my shirts almost three weeks later on June 23, 2017. I am disappointed as I have purchased suits in years past from William Wilson Clothing and had no issue. I never received an apology or explanation for why it took almost 4 months to receive shirts that should have taken three weeks."
