Reviews
"The negative review is because this is not our traditional style of barbecue we were seeking. Vinegar based isn't barbecue in KY. I want sticky ribs. Thick barbecue is desired to cover the pulled pork and not run off, leaving the need to add more. Vinegar coleslaw... No, thank you. Vinegar style barbecue isn't my preference at all. Then I made the mistake of ordering a dessert with our meal order. Now, come on, it's hard to mess up banana pudding, but the banana pudding from here is the worst, ever! Simply Bland. Oh, let's not forget the sweet tea! Now, if u are a true southern girl, u like your tea sweet and bursting with that down-home bold sweetness. Do not expect that to be true here. It was a bust kike the rest. Do yourself a favor and save your taste buds from a disappointment. By all means, keep your money in your wallet!"
"The service and atmosphere were great! However, the briskets were a bit cold and dry. The buns were good, but again, cold. The sweet tea, deviled eggs, and mac n cheese were pretty average. Overall, I think it's a great spot if you're craving for bbq."
"Luella's is what you'd always hope for in a local BBQ joint: excellent food (definitely try the wings and something you can bury in their mustard sauce), a laid-back comfortable atmosphere, and folks that make you feel like you just walked in the door to home. We got treated like family in the kindest way, and I don't think that was anything unusual here. Would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat."
"This was my first time trying this restaurant. It was very clean and the atmosphere was really relaxed. Plenty of seating inside and out. I wanted to try the ribs but they were sold out which I guess we can go ahead and assume they're pretty good then. I did the combo tray with pulled pork and brisket and then went with the baked beans and mac and cheese for the sides. The pork was very flavorful and cooked perfectly however my brisket was really dry unfortunately. I do have to say though the mac and cheese with some of the best I've had in a long time and the baked beans were also equally good. Great customer service and very friendly. Next time I'm back in North Carolina I will definitely give this a try again and hopefully try the ribs."
"We were searching for a good bbq restaurant in Asheville and came here after seeing the reviews. Tbh we thought we would be blown away but it was just ok. Pulled chicken was full of flavor but the pork was somewhat tough. Sweet potato casserole was really tasty, yet collard greens were too salty for me."
