"After eying La Rumba countless times en route to Target, I finally tried it and was not disappointed in any way. The food was flavorful and fresh. Anybody who says their food is bland must have ordered on a rare bad night, or maybe they had a sinus infection. I’m from California, and I have been eating beans & rice all my life. Never in my life were the beans the one thing I couldn’t stop eating. The pinto bean side dish is so delicious, I could potentially order it alone or with just rice if I need more than just a side. It has bacon and whole cloves of garlic in it. The flavor was outstanding! Service is polite and prompt. I’m going to throw out the superlatives: exceptional, magnificent, stupendous, phenomenal! I will be introducing this place to everybody I know because I NEED this place to survive. EAT HERE!"
"Nice, open, clean restaurant. Incredible service. Delicious food. The servings are massive and easily enough for 2 meals if you aren't a big eater. I was happy to see a vegan lunch/dinner menu. We aren't vegan but enjoy eating less meat and veggie/vegan options when available. I ordered the vegan chorizo as the meat option on my brunch meal. I ordered the huevos rancheros (I like mine with scrambled eggs) with sides of plantains and grilled veggies. The veggies were a nice mix of peppers, squash, and zucchini. The plantains were cooked perfectly and topped with something I'm not familiar with. It was savory and a great complement to the sweetness of the plantains. My husband ordered the hash plate and it was piled full of food. He got the smashed potatoes which weren't smashed but cooked well and tasted great. The complimentary street corn was delicious and unexpected!"
"First time visiting with family visiting Asheville from out of state. The surprise was the Mexican corn instead of the standard chips & salsa. Oh my!! Then to the creative unique cocktail list on the menu. We ordered a variety of cocktails to try them out. The food and service was great! Definitely will come back again to check out their vegan/vegetarian options."
"Had my first dinner there tonight and it will not be my last. The complimentary street corn is phenomenal. I'm a big fan of street corn. It's all over restaurants across the US and some do it well and some don't. You can't bite into the corn from La Rumba and not say "mmm!" That buttery, cheesey, seasoned goodness is addictive! While the menu had things I typically would order like Street Tacos and A La Parilla, I decided to take a chance when chef Mike said two of his faves are the Chile Relleno or Adobe de Puerco. I never order Chile Rellenos, but thought, what the heck, let's go for it. And WOW it was the most delicious thing I've eaten in a long time. I planned to eat one chile and save the other (because I normally don't eat a big meal), but ended up eating both! The tempura batter was light and crisp, not heavy or greasy and the queso oaxaca was the perfect creamy compliment. It's also topped with a little black beans and corn, giving it just a bit of texture and sweetness. It's topped with a mole sauce that's out of this world - so many layers of flavor that just build beautifully. My first poblano pepper had a slight heat to it, the second was mild - both were gone and in my belly before you knew it. This is the kind of restaurant you can take risks and order something you don't normally order and be positively surprised and delighted - a real hidden gem! PS. Also had a Coconut Margarita and it was dangerously tasty!"
