"Paid $14 for a fish basket only to get 1 1/2 small thin as paper pieces of fish and a bunch of fries! It’s a free country to review restaurants. This is an honest review. The fish was very good but I expected more than paper thin fish and two small pieces. For the price you pay, you don’t get much. Portions are small. Didn’t like the vinegar in the coleslaw or the green beans. Very over-powering. The owners feel the need to get on here and argue with customers who were not happy with their meal. So sad that they do this. I know you cannot please every customer that walks in your restaurant. But if I were a restaurant owner I would say I am sorry that you were not happy with your meal. And say perhaps you will give us another chance next time you’re back in town. There’s no need to get snarky with people. Life is too short."
"This thin piece is all you get for 17$. The trout was smoked to oblivion. Every side was sour( green beans and Cole slaw) . Literally Cracker Barrel’s trout plate is better for 13$ and you get TWO filets.. we had no idea they used vinegar in their sides. Taste like sour vomit. The locals have no idea what good food is. We haven’t been impressed with this area of north Carolina’s food. Per their response: I did tip the server, but my parents didn’t. And you don’t offer to comp one of their meals. No, I am Not hard to please. I gave a ton of 5 star reviews to restaurants who deserved it. Tell me you’d pay this much for this portion if you ate out? The server did not describe anything about vinegar to us before we ordered. First, my husband got Cole slaw which was sour, and he asked for green beans. Don’t you think the server should have told us the green beans would be sour too? You’re painting me out to be the bad guy here. The literal photos show everyone what they get for the price. Holiday has nothing to do with it. Good luck."
"Picked this up one night after a long day of adventuring and it hit the spot! The pickles were amazing and I loved that they tasted like REAL homemade pickles! The portions were filling and a good amount for the (fair) price. I’d love to be able to come back and sit down to eat, but it was still delicious even in a take out tray!"
"The Tin Trout is exceptional. The food, the service, the atmosphere all display an elegant flavor for the refined palate. This restaurant is a must for anyone who finds themselves in the high country."
