Metropolis Towers Apartments

"A very good place to live if you are working in Manhattan and looking for a cheaper place with good access to trains and restaurants! You might see many not so good reviews here, but I would advice against going completely just by the reviews. I would suggest visiting in person, talking to the management, getting to know the location and how accessible it is and then consider moving in. I would give this place a 4.5 rating to be honest, since I adjusted to a few things (read below) in exchange for the location and cheap rent. I lived here on the 4th floor in building 280 for 2.5 years and loved it. Only moved out for a job elsewhere. The Grove Street Path station is right across the building (very comfortable on rainy and cold days), the cross way is always busy even late at nights (as a single woman I never once felt unsafe returning home late at night), there is someone at the reception 24x7 which adds to the safety, there are coffee shops, restaurants and grocery stories all within a 5 min walk, there is even a tiny convenience store (mostly Indian) just below the building near the management office for emergencies. There is even a cafe called Short Grain right across the street that has a printer for last minute travel documents. My unit was a studio (renovated) with a huge walk in closet, an island and a wall filled with windows (providing lots of natural light). It was very cheap (including water and all utilities) when I moved in and the rent increased only by $120 monthly in the second year. My unit did not have W/D but the building's laundromat is very good! My unit did not have a thermostat but the building had centralized temperature control and change the air temperature for the summer and winter months, and I could control the speed on the vent. It worked fine for me. The staff is very friendly if you are also equally friendly and have a good rapport. The building might look and feel a bit old (sometimes the elevators are a bit slow) but given the rent and location it is a very good place. Yes, I did have some trouble with roaches in my unit when I moved in but I was able to control and slowly exterminate them. I kept my house clean, never left food open at nights, cleaned the stove almost every other night and killed any roach I saw. It might even be easier and quicker if you don't mind calling the pest control for a visit. In all, I loved my stay and wouldn't hesitate to move in again if I move back to Jersey City someday (given the rent rates these days). Thanks a lot for all the management staff!!"

"I used to live here as a kid and my parents still rent their apartment here I'm going to balance this out with a five-star even though I probably rate it closer to 3.75 or 4 Long story short yes there is a mice and roach problem for a long time here but it depends a lot on whether you are leasing or renting from one of the condo owners. in my parents case they maintain the apartment extremely well took out all the cabinets and caulked everything to the t so long story short take a hard walk around the apartment I hang out with people who live here too and various apartments have a WIDE range of how big a problem they have... because it essentially depends on how that individual apartment was maintained by the condo owner... not every single apartment in this construction is maintained by the leasing office. central air is controlled by leasing but you're also allowed window units by most condo owners. I would also add after being around so many of the modern luxury buildings and having friends or partygoers apartments located in them... their sound insulation sucks compared to metropolis towers which is basically built out of cement... and the construction quality has lasted. something to consider this is for the yuppies who don't know much about downtown Jersey City FYI this probably the single best spot in downtown Jersey City between parking between being between the two Path stations between being walkable to the shop right and the whole foods and the Liberty State Park walking path like you literally cannot get a better locale... eats anything in Brooklyn's heart out"

"Cockroach & mice infected building. Doesn’t matter how clean and tidy you are, they will find a way into your apartment. As mentioned in other reviews, you’ll have to move out sooner or later. In addition, a security named Candice avoids eye contact, uses gestures instead of human language, and ignores greetings, but treat white people with patience and respect."

"Honestly had a good time living here only for the simply fact of the location. Was really dissatisfied with how this property is managed.. The day I moved out I reserved the elevators and had to fight the maintenance employees to use the elevators to remove my belongings. Like what was the point in the reservation if your own staff can't follow the schedule? My rent increased from 1600 to 1900 for a studio after a one year lease which is just a ridiculous increase. Some of the staff are nice but overall these people just don't care about the tenants. I had Autopay set up on my account and you would think that the management company who asked for 30 day notice would cancel the billing but no they didn't.... I was charged for another month and when I called they said oh you have to call your bank? For what to update your autopay system? Like they should have at least told me to update it.... If you want to go to JC don't go here you'll get better service elsewhere....."

"CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT I'M READING! THESE KIDS HAVE NO IDEA HOW GOOD THEY HAVE IT. TO LIVE SO CENTRALLY LOCATED IN A PROPERLY PROPERTY MANAGED BUILDING. I'VE LIVED ALL OVER HOBOKEN AND JERSEY CITY DOWNTOWN AREA.... AND THIS IS A TRUE GEM. AS ADULTS WE ALL UNDERSTAND THERE MAY BE A COUPLE OF BUGS. HERE AND THERE BUT I HAVE LIVED HERE FOR OVER FOUR MONTHS AND NEVER HAVE HAD ANY ISSUES AND SPOKE TO ALL MY NEIGHBORS AND THEY WILL ATTEST TO THE SAME. CHILDREN PRETENDING TO BE ADULTS should not deter you from this property. THE PROPERTY MANAGER AND THE WOMEN IN THE OFFICE ARE FRIENDLY EACH AND EVERY TIME I'VE EVER HAD TO DEAL WITH THEM! METROPOLIS TOWERS! MAKE IT YOUR NEW HOME. MAKE YOUR OWN DECISION DON'T BASE IT ON CHILDREN PRETENDING TO BE ADULTS."
