"UPDATE 03/02/23: The owner of the Newark Rx Pharmacy read my review and replied immediately asking what he can do to clear up this situation. I just got off the phone with him. He apologized and relayed that he takes these things seriously and had a conversation with the employee. I wholeheartedly believe it was a incident that involved a language and culture barrier and an freak similar interaction with a different outcome that happened a few minutes before I entered the store. The owner let me know I was welcomed back to the store when I'm in town. I consider the situation closed and I think he confronted, investigated and handled the situation appropriately (for me at least). 02/28/23 - A friend and I were staying in NJ for an event in NY. We were shopping in the area and it was raining. We saw this pharmacy and figured they would probably sell umbrellas. I entered in said hi and asked if they sold umbrellas. An older Asian women let me know that the umbrellas were very expensive ($20 is apparently a big ticket item) and they just had small ones/didn’t have any umbrellas. I was half listening because of the accent and eyeing the room for umbrellas. However my friend heard her loud and clear and he informed me that she indeed had umbrellas but she said they were too expensive for me at $20 and I could not afford them. It finally clicked. I told her to show me the umbrellas; she finally did and I told her to her face to not ever again in her life tell me what I can and cannot afford. Someone else, maybe the pharmacist came and whispered something to the the older Asian woman and ushered me to a register; apologizing profusely. I let the pharmacist person know that the lady can’t speak to people like that and that if I didn’t need this umbrella, I would not even purchase it. I was so mad I could only see red for a bit, but I held my composure."
"Racist older Asian female employee. Won’t be visiting again. I didn’t even make it in the door."
