"Surprised Marriott puts their name on this. Tucked out of the way. Had to moves rooms our second day here. Walls needed painting. Heat was either hot or cold, nothing just right. Shower was out of body wash when I got in. Coffee isn't good. Layers of dust on one of the window sills. And both rooms we were in had fabulous views of brick walls. That said - cute (very small) bar with a pool table. And the staff was very helpful."
"Worst hotel experience here. Should be classified as a motel. I'm surprised Marriott would put their name on this property. Got a double room to share with my adult son. The bathroom door didn't close fully. I called customer service to see it. The guy said it's made that way and just deal with it. The shower and sink wouldn't drain and water pooled up to my ankles in the shower. The floor in the bathroom would flood so towels were all used to sop up water. Drybar shower gel, shampoo and conditioner all empty. Nothing to hang a towel on. Two electrical sockets in room. No charging ports available in the room. There must be a lot of theft at this property because the room was bare minimum without any decorations. Room with seedy and dirty. Horrible property."
"I never write negative reviews but think one is warranted in this case. The website and reviews are generally positive which drew me in to book at the hotel. It was a very bad experience. The area lacks amenities. The heating unit in my room popped all night long. And, I didn’t have hot water in the morning. All this for $300/night. I checked out early and moved to a different hotel. Marriott needs to take a hard look at this property. Beware."
"First time staying at an Aloft. I've heard mixed reviews from others, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I love the modern, fun feel. It doesn't feel "stodgy". It's great there is a bar, because you never know when you need to take a drink upstairs after a long day. Free coffee, morning sandwiches and other pay-for snacks are great when you don't want to venture out late or in weather for a bite. The room is efficient. A little too much. Everything is open shelf design in the bathroom to store your clothing and bathwares. Helps when you need to pack and not forget items, but not helpful to organize for longer stays. Little to no shelf space in the shower area to put your own cleansers. No fan. Central control of lights by room door is a bit annoying. Rolling bathroom door is heavy, doesn't stay open and is a little loud as it rolls closed on its own. Biggest inconvenience, however, was the near daily elevator breakdowns. When only 1 of 2 work...you REALLY need the 1 to work, and it consistently did not. Thankfully, I got to our 4th floor room after intense spinal fusion surgery. But it caused my husband a lot of stress wondering if it would work for me when needed."
"This hotel was really nice. The staff was friendly. Especially the bartenders. The rooms had a fun artistic style without being silly or pretentious. The snack bar and free coffee was a nice plus. The neighborhood around the hotel was interesting and had a lot to offer as far as food and things to see. The only thing that stopped me from giving this 5 stars was the elevator issues. They went out 4 times during the week we were there. My wife has mobility issues and I don't know what we would have done if she had needed to get up to the room while the elevators were broken. I understand things happen, but 4 times is a little much. I'd still recommend staying there if you're in the area. It'll be on my short list of places to stay the next time I'm in NYC"
