"Never use or trust Viator or “free cancellation.” We lost over $300 for a Nt Saint Michel trip when my husband got sick and, out of concern for others, tried to cancel 48 hrs before the trip. Never use or trust them"
"Are you planning to use Viator / TripAdvisor for an upcoming trip? We strongly advise you against it, based on our experience. Read our statement of claim, filed with Ontario’s small claims court, at Scribd, with document # 693656986 and title Statement-of-Claim-IB-and-TC-v-FC-and-TA. As a summary, we booked a holiday to South Africa – for our wedding – which included a tour in and around Kruger National Park with our kids. The tour went badly wrong on the first day, with the local supplier driving us through some dangerous areas and then depositing us in a remote motel with no Internet or reliable cell phone connections. To be clear, it’s not just that it was "rustic" – I’m a veteran and have put up with that and worse – but that it was nowhere near what we had paid for *and* that it was unclean and unsafe. For example, we had to walk through the brush in the dark to the only restaurant in an area with wandering baboons (they're not cute, and they can be aggressive). With our kids. A great way to trigger PTSD, if you have it. This appears to us to have been an attempt to take advantage of North Americans who wouldn’t know better. However, my wife is Zimbabwean-Canadian and has worked and lived in South Africa – so immediately raised the alarm. (Despite this, the White, North American staff at Flight Centre have repeatedly explained to her what she should expect in that part of the world.) We had also already travelled within the country so knew what we should get for the amount we paid. Although Flight Centre and Viator (which is owned by TripAdvisor) promised to help, it quickly became clear to us that the goal was to manage us and not to resolve the problem. Isolated and without reliable communications, we managed to make alternative arrangements on our own. At our own expense, of course. Viator flatly refused to conduct a proper investigation or offer proper compensation and Flight Centre strung us along for about a month before telling us to go pound sand. It feels like it was a strategy to wear us down until we were less outraged and perhaps preoccupied with Christmas. So our advice is to do your own research and make your own arrangements, because neither of the defendants in our case stood by their own advice and recommendations, or made things right."
"Do not use Viator or any company associated with them. I red the bad reviews before I purchased the tickets. Thought that I couldn't happen to me. Oh boy was I wrong. Stay away. Bad customer service. Crooks if you ask me. Stole my $140. I will report them to the BBB for sure."
"Stay far away from these scam artists. I paid $90 each for two tickets to board a Schooner in Maine. Others on the boat paid $60 each which was printed right on the ticket. When I contacted Viator and sent them a picture of the tickets they said "others in the area were charging the same as they were." What? Even with proof, they dont give money back. Run away"
"Our tour was to Mt. Rainier in Washington. The guide, Jasper, was amazing. He was informative, helpful, and helpful. He allowed the right amount of time for activities. But always kept on schedule. The tour agency kept us updated on the times and who our guide would be. I would highly recommend them as well as use their company again."
