Reviews of 750 Myrtle Diner
"Ambiance and Concept The diner is a unique fusion of a Japanese Steiner, a small grocery store, and a liquor store, all nestled in a cozy corner of New York City. This establishment defies expectations with its unassuming exterior and lack of a traditional Japanese name. The clever blend of dining and retail creates a vibrant, multifaceted experience, reminiscent of the small izakayas and shops found in the streets of Japan. Culinary Experience The highlight of this diner is undoubtedly its culinary offerings, particularly the tonkatsu. After a gastronomic journey through Japan, where I experienced some of the most flavorful tonkatsu, I was pleasantly surprised to find a comparable, if not superior, version in this unlikely spot. The pork chop is cooked to perfection, with a balance of crispiness and juiciness, enveloped in a rich, savory coating that elevates the dish to a sublime level. Service The service is warm and welcoming. The proprietors are not just owners; they are ambassadors of Japanese hospitality. Their kindness and attention to detail add a personal touch to the dining experience, making each visit memorable. Seating and Accessibility The seating arrangement is the diner's only apparent shortcoming. Most customers seem to prefer takeout or delivery, which the diner accommodates efficiently. However, for those who choose to dine in, the outdoor seating on the sidewalk is somewhat limited and lacks the comfort one might desire for a relaxed meal. There's certainly room for improvement in this area to enhance the overall dining experience. Overall Impression This diner is a hidden gem for anyone seeking authentic Japanese cuisine in New York City. Its unorthodox combination of a restaurant, grocery, and liquor store creates a unique charm. While the seating could use an upgrade, the quality of food, especially the tonkatsu, makes it a must-visit for both locals and tourists alike. Whether you're ordering delivery or braving the limited outdoor seating, you're in for a culinary treat that brings a slice of Japan to the heart of New York. **Verdict:** A delightful surprise offering a genuine taste of Japan in an unexpected setting. Highly recommended for its exceptional tonkatsu and warm service, with the hope for improved seating arrangements in the future."
"I ordered salmon with rice, they sent me mackerel with a note saying that they were “sold out of salmon”…?!?! We don’t eat mackerel! but they never called me to double check with me: they simply just replaced the meal. Which is so wrong, they should have let me know or call me to make sure I was fine with the replacement . You can’t even call them, they don’t have a phone number and when I found one online, it goes to a voicemail ( not even sure it’s the restaurant) it’s too bad, the food looked good but restaurants who decide on behalf of customers without their knowledge is just wrong. Especially if you have allergies ."
"love this place! best fried chicken sandwich, ramen kits, onigiri, snacks, candies, and a well stocked freezer section with fish, gyoza, and mochi ice cream."
"JUST COME HERE. every dish on their daily changing menu is absolutely fantastic and superb. Trust whatever they recommend because the owners know what they are doing and I’ve honestly had some of the best bites and dishes in my life here at 750 myrtle. I love it!!!! I personally love their curry rice, buttered enoki mushrooms, ramen (when they have it), karaage fried chicken, snow crab fried rice, and yakitori."
"Great spot for a date, nice ambiance, service, presentation. We loved two dishes we ordered, the beets and beans and broccoli rabe. The house fried chicken was a little bland, the other options are probably tastier. Will be back to try the rest of the menu."
