"The overall experience I had at the Birth Centre of Charlottesville during my entire pregnancy and birth of my firstborn was phenomenal. When I first decided to have a natural birth and discovered Janna and her team I was comfortable and excited to be using them after my first prenatal visit. Throughout my prenatals I met everyone on staff and they knew my husband and I every time we came for an appointment. They showed genuine care for me and my baby, I never felt out of the loop or that I wasn't being taken care of properly. My birth experience was as wonderful as one can be, as a first time mom I was of course nervous about the pain and just the normal chain of events when it comes time to have your baby. I was in contact with Dominique from the moment my labor started and she guided me through what was happening, she helped me listen to my body and know when the time was right to head into the birth center. Once my husband and I arrived, everyone was ready for me with a smile on their face; the facility clean and peaceful. During labor, there was always someone ready to help me through each painful contraction, a hand to hold and a reassuring voice. Soon after little one was born, my husband and I were given time and space to get to know our sweet baby girl during those first few moments. Since the birth we have been supported through post partum visits and any of my first time mom concerns have been kindly answered. I will miss seeing the team once we wrap up our visits with them, but we will return for the birth of another child if/when that time comes and we are still in the area!"

"Janna and her team are amazing! I had baby number 5 at the birthing center because it was closer to home and I wanted a different experience from the hospital births I’d had. Janna and her team were all so kind and professional and I didn’t once feel pressured to do something I didn’t feel comfortable with. I went past my expected due date by 2 plus weeks so Janna, myself and my husband decided it best to naturally induce. A few hours later my 9 lb 12 oz baby was born! Everyone checked out perfect and I was able to go home shortly after to my own bed! Follow up appointments were easy, they came to my house to check up on my baby and me and I so appreciated not having to leave home for that!"

"I have had the privilege of being supported n my pregnancy, labor, births, and postpartum care for three of my children with Janna and her amazing team. Two of my births were at the birth center and one was at home. Each experience was so different because what two births are the same, but at each one the constant care, support, encouragement and expertise that Janna and her team provided carried me through. Previous to finding The Birth Center, My firstborn was born in a hospital and I felt so suffocated by the strict policies and red tape, and had to fight so hard for my right to have a voice in my birth. Thankfully I had a midwife then who helped advocate for me, but it was the reason why I knew I needed to find a safe and empowering place to have my next births. I’m so grateful that I found Janna. I recommend her to everyone. She came along side of me and even when faced with unexpected complications in one of my births she acted with quickly to stabilize the situation. My husband and I were so grateful for her incredible knowledge and expertise to know exactly what was going on and how to keep me and my son safe and to bring him into our arms safely in spite of unexpected circumstances. But I was so impressed that even knowing I wanted to be at the birth center no matter what she encouraged me that even if I transferred to hospital it would be ok and they would support me through the birth. She had a plan and took action to have a transfer team in route in a timely manner. Thankfully things took a turn for the best and we were able to have a healthy baby and safe supported birth at the birth center. I never questioned for a moment if we were in good hands. She took such great care to make sure we were both safe and was ready to expand that care to a hospital setting at a moments notice if we had in fact needed to do that. My second birth with her was a no brainer for me. There was no one else I could imagine choosing to bring into that role for our family. It was an incredible and empowering experience. She took such good care of me postpartum. And even through breastfeeding, challenges of tongue ties, intact care for my son and as a friend, Janna was a invaluable part of my life in those days, weeks and years following. She went above and beyond with my forth pregnancy and birth to give me the opportunity to have the home birth I’d been hoping for for 6 years. She’s kind, compassionate, intelligent and inspiring. My husband and I have always felt like she was one of the most knowledgeable birth workers we’d ever spoken with. Midwifery is so clearly her calling in this life. We are so thankful and blessed to have found Janna and her team. And without hesitation she is the first person I recommend to others who are looking for a midwife in the Charlottesville area. The birthing place has become like a family to us, and Janna without a doubt is family now."
