"My 82 year old mothers primary physician recommended Harmony Cares after she fractured her hip. They sent a Nurse with her Assistant. My mother has Cardio Vascular Disease compounded with COPD and is post stroke. I gave the PA her discharge paperwork from Sentara Princess Anne Hospital showing that they had taken her off her Lasix and indicated that she needed to be put back on it but left it to the doctor to determine. I called them four days in a row asking to talk directly to her PA Shirl Johnson since my mother’s breathing was getting worse each subsequent day and the staff would not let me talk to her to reach out to the doctor and kept telling me to call 911 if it gets worse! If they had talked to Dr. Hastings we might have avoided having to call 911 when my mother reached a critical point of no return and had to re-hospitalize her to get the fluids that were surrounding her lungs and heart! Honestly this whole event was frightening and traumatic for my mother. I spoke with Dr. Hastings and he is checking up on why the staff did not communicate with the nurse or doctor. Her primary doctor Dr. Patel was not very happy with Harmony Cares and probably will never use them again. Will see if Dr. Hastings can make the changes necessary to better care for a seniors care with underlying health conditions. Until then I have no confidence in this facility therefore I will be filing a formal complaint with The Virginia Department of Health for an investigation!"
"We cannot seem to get my fathers meds. There have been numerous calls to their office. It has been 3 months of this. Helen, who is the NP has NO time for her patients."
"My sole complaint is about the scheduling. We sent online to fill out forms and waited to be contacted about scheduling. 3 weeks later, after a call from our PT, we were told a date, and then informed that it was policy to contact people the day before an appointment and then would call the day of with a time. That just seems very frustrating for the patients, especially when you have other doctors visits that are scheduled."
"Dr. Patterson and Nurse Stephanie do a remarkable job responding to my 91 year old mother! They take their time with her, and are patient, kind, and thorough. They respond in a timely manner when I have concerns. They genuinely care about my mom’s health and comfort. In addition to caring for my mom, they never forget to ask me how I’m doing. Dr. Patterson and Stephanie understand the difficulty of caring for an elderly parent. My family and I are extremely grateful for them!"
"Our experience over the past 4+ years with Visiting Physicians Association (VPA) has been nothing short of exceptional. I used to have to take my father to multiple doctor appointments per week, which would take up an entire afternoon. Working full-time made juggling this schedule very difficult. I needed help, and that's when I was referred to VPA. I've dealt with dozens of doctors/specialists over the past 10 years of taking care of my father, and have never experienced the level of care and service that he gets with VPA. The physicians have been true partners in my father's care. The fact that they travel to see him, versus him having to travel to multiple doctors per week/month is amazing – and nothing short of a godsend. The communication between myself (as caregiver) and the VPA doctors and clinical staff has been excellent. Dr. Darshanna Chadda and Dr. Sara Gunnink, in particular, have been amazing to work with! Even when my father moved from an assisted living facility to a retirement community located outside of his current VPA Dr’s regular practice area (different ZIP code), VPA allowed her to keep him as a patient to maintain continuity of care. I can't say enough good things about VPA, and the difference they have made in my father's life, and mine, as his caregiver. To address the negative reviews I will say this... this has not been our experience. We’ve dealt with Dr. Evans on several occasions – good communication, no issues. I have very high expectations and standards-of-care for my family (of course), and am very involved in my father’s care. It’s a 50-50 partnership – when physicians change, you have to be proactive and make sure there’s proper turn-over and that the new Doc has all the info they need to continue care. Don’t assume it’s being done. If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the last 10 years, is that you have to be proactive with the provider about your own (or your loved one’s) health care."
