Shook Josh a MD -HMG Pediatrics at Medical Plaza

"Dr Shook was my child's doctor for almost 6 years. When he was a baby we brought up a number of concerns which were dismissed as normal. He wouldn't change my son's formula because he believed he should stay on the one he left the hospital with even though my son was in a lot of distress. I ended up getting a container of another brand my son did much better on but wic wouldn't cover it and it was pricey. He did send my son to speech therapy when my son was 2 but we had other concerns which were dismissed. He's a dr so I thought he knew more. When my son started school his teachers noticed issues and we let him know and he wanted school reports and when we sent those in, the dr told us that it sounded like sensory integration issues and the school can handle it. I told the teachers who advised us on finding another pediatrician. I should have listened to my gut to begin with. Like a fool I didn't trust my own instincts after all these incidents but we switched and this new Dr has been amazing. My only regret is not switching Dr's sooner. The reason I'm giving 2 stars? The Dr is nice and will shake your hand and he's been good with diagnosing physical health concerns including constipation, the flu, etc. But when it comes to certain aspects of health including mental health, issues are brushed off. I recently made friends with another lady who had the same Dr before switching. I can't believe there isn't more reviews but the dr has switched offices before including once when my son was a patient of his."

"Our pediatrician Dr. Richard Gendron retired at HMG. I've trusted him for my children's medical care for almost thirty-three years. Needless to say, I was really concern to find a different doctor after such wonderful care I received from him. He was my oldest son's doctor since 1982. Yesterday my younger two boys ten and thirteen received care by Dr. Josh Shook, a pediatrician at HMG in Kingsport, Tn. I was amazed at how he could relate to their needs in such a way a mother could not for boys at this age. I highly recommend Josh for anyone looking for a new pediatrician."
