"Really cool secluded spot, no amenities at all and lake was empty when I was there. Want to get away from all check it. Few mile drive on gravel and dirt roads that are small to get here. Many birds but I did not see much other wildlife."

"This whole area is quite beautiful and remote. To get to the lake you need to drive over 6 miles down a dirt road. Make sure your car can handle it. The road is well kept. If you are hiking, watch out for snakes."

"This place is haunting, surreal, with a mystical and almost ancient vibe to it at certain times of the year. It's a photographers mecca, which is why I visit here several times a year from several hundred miles away. My last visit, the first whispers of autumnal advent were upon the refuge and it was just stunningly beautiful. While I have encountered folks out here before, usually one has it to their self. When the occasional encounter with others happens, they're usually quite respectful. There is a dizzying array of wildlife here to see, but don't get so wrapped up in seeing the big things, that you miss the beauty of the smaller treasures right in front of you. :-)"

"Roughly 4 mile drive back to the lake on a dirt road. A permit to drive to the lake is required and can be purchased for $5 at a pull off area shortly after heading onto the main path. Well worth the drive back there just to see, but fishing is allowed with fresh water permit."

"Gravel road leading to a boat ramp and a small pier. The pier has a looking glass on it so you can check out any birds that may be nesting or roosting around the lake. Excellent place to slide in a kayak and paddle around for awhile and enjoy the peat/tanic water."
