"We're military, so we love to visit these time capsules and get a first-hand feel of history. I was delighted to happen upon a guided tour by a reenactor who was knowledgeable about this fort as well as the others lining this river and much much more. I also found a geocach if you're interested. There were ticks, but I didn't run into any other bug issues. The tour guide said to watch for snakes. No beach access."

"Nice walk down a shaded trail that brings you to where the fort originally stood. Cannons from their elevated banks aimed at the James River gives you an idea as to what ships would have had to endure!"

"What an amazing hidden gem! The day we visited, the fog was rolling over the banks of the James River making it feel like a scene from Patriot. We’ll definitely be visiting again!"

"Great place for a short hike. Excellent place for birding. It could be a great picnic spot. Could not find an access to get to James River. The canons need little bit of maintenance but they are cool. Good place to take family pictures."
