"The staffing "challenges" as they like to call it are only the tip of the iceberg. No one at the front desk is approachable. They seemed bothered if you ask them anything and lord forbid if your loved one needs help, because they aren't getting it. The food is horrible, the staff has absolutely no pep in their step and I am so happy that my mother-in-law made it out of that place alive tbh. They had her on some meds but definitely not the medications she was prescribed by her doctor, and even after repeatedly trying to coordinate with the nurses for over a month she never was switched over to her medicine regimen she was used to. I'll never forget the first night she was transferred from Sentara Princess Anne over to the rehab. No one greeted her, she saw no doctors, we actually as family members had no idea why she was transferred and after sitting around for an hour after the front desk person pointed the ambulance drivers to a room, my husband and I had to ask for a oxygen machine and we had to set it up ourselves. About 2 hours after arriving a nurse came in to take her vitals and then disappeared. She stayed on a catheter for more than a week and then she was put into diapers. I think she got her teeth brushed once and maybe had one sponge bath the entire month she was there. They offered her no hygiene help at all yet they kept her bedridden, telling her multiple times to not get out of bed on her own. She never had her clothes washed, we ended up hauling them back to our house and doing her laundry. It was a lot of back and forth for me and my husband because when my mother in law needed help no one there could help me assist her. I called 15 times one night asking someone to go to her room and pick up her phone charger. Instead my husband drove 1 hour to pick her charger off the floor of her room and drove another hour home. The front desk person that took down my name and number that said she would personally check on it never did and never called me back. I could go on and on with stories like these. I get being understaffed, low staffed, staff challenged, whatever you wanna call it but the staff you do have needs to have a fire lit under their butts. They need to care about these people like they are caring for someone they love, because more times than not these people don't want to be there they have to be there. You could at least make there time there pleasant and safe. Stop the constant chit chat, put down your cell phones, and talk to the people you're attending to and their family members. My mother-in-law is checked out now. Of course no thanks to any of the staff there. The social worker reminded us at least a dozen times that she was new, but what does that have to do with anything? Can you not return a phone call? Can you not answer some simple questions? So confused. Anyways here's to hopefully better things in the next place."
"Do not put your parents here. Here’s why! My mother suffered from a stroke leaving paralyzed on left side. When she was released from the hospital and this facility was recommended by other nurses. I went with their word. This facility will provide excuses regarding care. Both myself and my wife had to voice our opinion. Unfortunately, my mother had to be taken out 2 months later. The nurses would be constantly switch and we was asked the same question regarding on why she was there. While she was at this facility my mother got gangrene as a diabetic. By this, no proper care was provided and I have photos of those daily visits until her unit contracted COVID. Before that, it seemed that during an occupational therapy her foot hit something and was not reported. It was during that time, that toe became infected which lead to gangrene. Today my mother is in the process of getting that portion of her leg amputated. The funny part about this, when I brought this to the attention of the PA. The response was as follows, “Unfortunately there’s nothing we can do, but make an appointment with podiatry”. This left a sour note and not recommend this facility for the care of loved one. If there was a way to place -5, I would."
"My father has been a patient at Princess Anne Health and Rehab Center for about a month. I was a bit skeptical because of several bad experiences there a few years ago with my mother, but it was the first place we could get a bed, so…. It seems as though something has fundamentally changed since my last experience there - either new ownership or new management maybe? Whatever has changed, my current experience has been very positive. The folks who have worked with and taken care of my dad have been very kind to him and to those of us who love him and visit him. The Administration has been accessible and helpful. The food is much better than during the last experience there, and finally, the facility has been clean and odor free, and they have kept him very clean. Overall a very positive experience, and I would not hesitate to use the facility again."
"My dad had a stroke and was in this facility for two months. With the exception of two very special nurses, a handful of nursing aides and the therapy staff, this stay and transition to home left a lot to be desired. Because our family was so involved and very present, his experience with lapses in care came when there were agency staff used and, especially on the overnight shift. The worst part of all, was the complete and absolute FAILURE of this facility to provide any meaningful assistance with his discharge home. The discharge planner left abruptly in the middle of the process and the administration and leaders did nothing to fill the gap. There was no care planning meeting with our family, no guidance given on obtaining equipment and home care, no transition of care planning for his continued PT/OT needs and my mom had to coordinate all of this with limited knowledge of what steps to take. This facility used to be top notch. It is deceptively beautiful and lulls people into believing their family member is in a safe place, but nothing could be further from the truth. I only hope that one day, these administrators, nurse leaders and owners (or their families) never have to experience the level of sub-standard care they gave to my dad: especially in an already stressful situation. I hope they take these reviews to heart and effect meaningful changes to address these gaps."
"My 92-year old mother fell and broke her hip. After surgery she went to the Princess Anne Health & Rehabilitation Center. Her experience there was a nightmare. The first night she had no heart or blood pressure medication. They would not even give her a Tylenol for her pain until the next day. That night she called for the nurse to go to the bathroom. No one came. She was in a wet diaper for hours. The next day they gave her an incorrect medication and did not follow the doctor's instruction for that medication. The second night, the Administrator allowed me to stay one night with my mother. Mom rang for the nurse at 3:45 a.m. to go to the bathroom. Thirty minutes later when no one came, I walked down the hall to find no one at the nurse's station. Mom's call bell was ringing while two staff members were across the hall in the dining area. One had her headphones on and was doing something on her phone and my mother's night nurse had her head down on the table and appeared to be asleep. The following day Mom started passing blood. I had to argue with the Director of Nursing to call 911 to have Mom transported to the hospital. PT and OT are probably fine as well as the daytime nurses, but the night nurses were awful. There doesn't see to be any accountability at the Executive level and no accountability for the nighttime staff. I would not recommend this place for anyone."
