"I won’t be hiking this again. It’s tough and as most of the reviewers said, it’s like a roller coaster. I don’t like hikes where you have to ascend and descend constantly… you will be let down so many times during this hike… thinking you arrived but only to have to climb up another hill. The view up at the end was a little overrated."
"Like others have said it’s very rocky and is a good workout. I wasn’t mentally prepared so the dog and I only hiked about a mile from the parking lot. The first half mile or so is easy/moderate then it gets more rocky with some inclines."
"Great hike,2.7 miles. We took almost 4 hours total and spent 30 mins at the top. Started @3:30 pm and were back by 7:50 pm on a Sunday. It wasn’t that busy but met some hikers on our way. If you start early it’s a moderate hike with 2 strenuous patches."
"Free parking right at the entrance but it is small about 20 cars. Whole trail is about 3 miles one way would take 3-4 hours to complete. This trail contains much more rocks than others, but be sure to wear a good thick hiking boots. Dogs are allowed but very unsuitable for the tails as too many rocks. No bathroom on site as well as along the way, but there is a pub within 3 mins drive. Overlook is not very big might be crowded on busy season. Cell phone signal are available along the trail but some area is slow, overlook has good reception. You can even do live streaming. On a summer day you would need at least 1 liter water for the whole trail."
"Great hike. 7-8 effort. Worth the view. Get there early. Parking fills up quickly. I did not take my own advice. Got there on a Saturday at 9:15 am and there was 1 parking space left. Luckily I know how to back in and parallel park. It was a great day for a hike. It was great to see many people outdoors. However I also saw a lot of people struggling on the trail. So I thought I will share some basic tips. Tip 1 - ditch the metal water bottles. Saw alot of people carrying it on their hand. They are heavy and you have no place to put them when you get tired. Tip 2 - ditch the school backpack. You don't need much for this hike. It adds weight. Keep it light. Tip 3 - Do carry a plastic water bottle. It is lighter than a metal water bottle. The hike is 2.5 miles to Ravens Rock and parts of it can be strenuous. You will need water. Tip 4- Use a waist pack with a water bottle holder. It makes it easier to carry your wallet, keys, snacks, and water in 1 pack. Tip 5 - ditch the heavy jackets. Too heavy to carry once you get hot and you have to take it off. Wear layered clothing instead. These tips will help make the hike easier and more enjoyable. Here's a picture of my waist pack and what I carry. Hope this helps. Happy trails."
