"I was seeking a divorce from my (now ex) husband and was looking to obtain counseling with him so that we could make an attempt at co-parenting skills and transition therapy. I informed the provider over the phone, prior to the visit that I was leaving my marriage due to domestic violence. During our 2 appointments she proceeded to tell me that my children would "never be able to trust anyone if I left my husband" and that I would "continue to have these same issues with anyone I entered into a relationship with moving forward". It is absolutely horrifying to me that I was told these things after telling her that I was literally an active victim of domestic violence. Either she neglected to document that extremely pertinent information prior to saying those things to my face, in front of my abuser. Or she decided that meant absolutely nothing to her and proceeded with those statements anyway. I am terrified for anyone that sees this provider who is in a similar situation that I was, had I not had my mind very made up about leaving, her words could have been absolutely detrimental. During our second visit she spent the majority of it talking about her own life and her own trauma, it was very weird (being that it was only our second time meeting her) and sounded very scripted/rehearsed. This whole experience occurred during one of the most difficult times in my life and only rubbed salt in the wound - and cost me $200. Long story long - please invest in literally anyone else as your counselor."
