Reviews of Common at National Landing
"Would have liked to tour the place in person (that is not allowed), but the virtual tour seemed like this should be a good place for me. Lots of restaurants and services nearby. Delonte did a decent job answering my questions, but failed to note that the bedroom doors for coliving only lock when inside the room. Did not know this until moved in. Moved to studio apartment for $500 fee and that has been fine. Sharing some other info in case it helps you. 1. Screening for applicants – they do background checks. No matching is done for co-living, random for when people come and go. 2. No smoking in the building. Have noticed some smoke smell occasionally and management has some reminders. 3. Coliving bathroom is shared by 2 people. 4. What is coliving guest policy? Occasional is okay, cannot have a roommate. 5. Under what circumstances will you enter my room? Will always notify first. 6. What is process for repairs? Water leak, no hot water, ?? emergency line available. Cannot say how long but should be addressed in hours for emergency issues. 7. Heating and cooling controlled from your room 8. Rent is paid through portal 9. Any extra fees for utilities or other? nope 10. What is process for renewal or notice of moving out? At 60 day remaining, they will ask which I want to do 11. If I wanted to change from co-living to studio, what would costs be? Have to finish or break the lease was their initial answer. After I complained about not disclosing the lock issue, they agreed to $500 fee to switch to studio. 12. Are there any building repairs planned in the next year? Some painting but nothing major. 13. Are the locks changed between tenants, and who has access to the keys? There are no keys. All electronic. If you get locked out, concierge can let you in with proof of ID. See issue with coliving bedroom lock at the top of this review. 14. Pet policy – 1 per person. But none of my coliving roomates had any. 15. Access to metro is not from tunnels but is .2 miles 16. Deliveries? Go to front desk 17. When you move in, you will get smartphone instructions for keys."
"Beware of the co living situations. I had a TERRIBLE living situation for about 6 months before I was able to move. It is exactly like living in a dorm, only you might have to live with other people’s animals in a tiny space. The rooms are not lockable and there is no private space in the building for public use. Meaning if you live in a co living situation, there is nowhere for you to make a personal call etc. The walls are thin so you’ll hear everything, including your co living mate using the bathroom. There are no open windows in the building, so no fresh air. You move into a co living space that you’re not allowed to view prior to moving in. This is intentional to keep you in the dark about the horrors that await. Maintenance and security are helpful, shout out to Ed and team. Meredith is great and was a saving grace to the experience. Management beyond that is like talking to AI. Not helpful and robotic. They care to get you into the apartment and nothing after. They also outsource calls, so when you reach out for something like a transfer for instance, the call center calls at 12am. I would not recommend. The location is great but you can definitely find alternates in the area for a similar price."
"Extremely small units for the price. Personnel were usually not so friendly (especially in the Common management team). Great location, clean hallways (the reason for 2 stars). It’s basically an expensive dorm. I lived here for 3 months, and every day added an extra level of stress to my life. To begin with, they showed me a specific unit and when moved in I ended up in a completely different design. Then I went to management (I had msgs from their agents and photos with exact pricing) to bring it up. After a couple days of waiting for them, they told me that it was a mistake by the agent who was laid off, and if I am willing to move to the initially shown unit, I need to pay the difference (I was given another pricing for each of these units). I was receiving random emails every week that I need to make some extra payment or the rent (which I had already paid). Emails regarding my concerns and issues about anything were returned after days (weeks in some cases), involving some apologies that it was a systematic error. Amenities were really not good, usually multiple machines down (whether in the laundry room or gym). Mailbox system was a mess. Roach issues were evident. In general, it was a frustrating experience. I would not recommend this place to anyone."
"Stayed at VA National Landing (Crystal City) for 3 months over the summer of 2023. It was a great experience overall. The units are well decorated and come with many amenities including kitchen appliances, cleaning supplies etc. The building is also well equipped with work/study, exercise, and entertainment amenities. The working team is responsive and are taking good care of the tenants. Also, the tenants are very cooperative and friendly. I would stay again — good price, location, and experience."
"Quiet, safe. A place where a person can call home after a long day of work. Then, take a stroll through the local shops. Enjoy the restful busyness of an active city. Discover new adventures one day at a time. 4 stars? Yes, even though it's a good place to live, the individual rooms are a bit small. But for one person, it's not intolerable. Once you become accustomed to it, the space becomes quite quaint."
