"I lived here for a year and it was a complete nightmare. I've lived in many apartments over the past decade and I can say without a doubt that this was the most horrid experience possible. As a graduate student, all I was looking for was a quiet and reasonably priced place to live, and this was anything but. I don't normally write reviews but this experience was so awful that I hope my review saves other people from living here! For starters, this place will try to nickel and dime you in every way possible. I've spoken to many nurses and students who have lived here over the years and none of them have received any of their security deposit back (roughly $1500). Secondly, they keep adding more monthly fees (pest, "refuse removal", water, sewer, multiple utility fees, to name a few). Additionally, there is no rent control and no morality - when I was considering staying another year, they raised my rent from $800 to $1200 a month, which is a 50% increase. Outside of the cost to live here, this place is old with very poor sound insulation. If you don't live on the top floor you can be sure to hear every single step from your neighbors above. If you do live on the top floor, you will be blamed for "stomping" and constantly "dropping things". Again, this is not just my experience, but the experience of my neighbors as well. The administrators at Honeywood do not want to acknowledge that their building needs repair and the walls are thin. Michelle Robinson and Timothy Sandidge deliver lip service but do nothing to address the issues with the building. In fact, Michelle told me that sound insulation wasn't an option because it would make noises louder between apartments. Point is, the managers here are unresponsive. Find someplace else to live."
"Update 05/04/2021: ⛔️ I went from liking this place including management. To hating management with a passion. These people were so kind to me until I moved. I was never behind in tent or anything else. I kept the place in immaculate shape. Never put a single hole the walls. Kept the place in perfect condition so I expected my deposit back no problem. So I March over to the office to let them know that I’m leaving and they could inspect my apartment. I was told they’ll get to it soon but it was oils take at least a month or two to send out my deposit. Make a long story shorter, two months later I get a letter in the mail from Honeywood stating not only am I not getting my deposit back but I also owe them $130.00. I immediately called them to let them know there must be a mistake and they had every excuse to justify why I owed them money instead of them owing me. STAY FAR AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. My fair warning ⚠️"
"$1,000 to break the lease 60 days before it ends AND it has to be in writing and you are responsible for all charges in between. Just a fair warning. They do not repair things in a timely manner, and some things never were repaired even though it was brought to their attention numerous times. They will say that they will pick up your packages while you are out of town, but they do not. Package service doesn’t exist, so I don’t know why they offer that service on their website. The walls are paper thin and you can hear (and smell) everything, and I mean everything your neighbors above or next to you do. Tiny second room, I would hardly call it a bedroom. More like 1/2 a bedroom. That’s where the HVAC system is so be prepared to hear the A/C or heat cut on and off all night and it is loud. At least that noise will drown out your neighbors for a bit. Parking is always an issue, never enough spots for the tenants. You pay a non-refundable pet fee ($300) when you move in, then you pay pet rent each month, and they STILL take your deposit when you leave, no matter how clean you get the place. They replace carpets with linoleum flooring and STILL charge you to replace the carpet. Sketchy to say the least. They charge you for everything when you move out and you’ll get a bill of “what you owe” months later, after you’re long gone. I would not recommend this place. Way overpriced for what you are getting. Try The Summit instead. I was so glad to get out of there."
"Honeywood staff are wonderful! Whenever I had a maintenance issue it was resolved the same day. I spent September through mid-June in my apartment as I was teaching school in Roanoke for the year. I had a second level apartment. Rarely did I hear noise from my neighbors. All of the neighbors I ran into were always very nice. It was a great place to live."
"While living at Honeywood we were greeted very kindly and shown a nice one bedroom apartment and lived there for about 2 years. However, the problem came in the lease itself. They charge various "fees" that do not seem to have any reason behind them other than to nickel and dime their residents. The biggest one being their 300$ pet fee. Most apartments charge a non refundable pet deposit so that it will be used to renovate your apartment should you ever move out to pay for pet damages. However, Honeywood charges this as a "Fee" which means that it is a 300$ charge for your pet to be allowed in the apartment and you must pay monthly rent for that pet as well. This means that all of the money you give them is for the privilege of your animal to be there and when you move they will hit you with a massive charge to renovate your vacant apartment and none of the money you have provided will be used towards that. I am giving them a 2 star review and not a 1 star because the maintenance, grounds works, and lifeguards I interacted with were extremely nice and helpful. However, the main office and leasing group seem to lack integrity & forthrightness about the cost of living in Honeywood Apartments."
