"$10 parking if the free one is full It has on site restroom at the entrance. They do check park pass as well. Free map at the gate. If back and forth to the upper fall it is about 3-4 hour walk. Most people stop at first fall usually it was packed with people. Water fall is not that big at Oct 28,2023 80F today. Some Att reception in the middle of the trail Try download offline map before come no cell reception since 30 mins away from the gate. About 30 mins to the first fall road condition is ok, some steep elevation right after first fall. It was pretty sunny after midway as most leaves has fallen which does not block any sunlight maybe sunscreen is needed. Water pond near falls are not very deep very shallow not good place for swimming, water is really code. Bring at least 2L water for a sunny day. Lots of dogs! like 20+"
"This is a great out and back hike (or you can make it a loop) . We always park in the lower lot and hike up, but you can park off of Skyline Dr and hike down. Depending on how in shape you are I'd say it's moderate in difficulty, but there is a pretty steep ascent to get to the top (probably about 2k in elevation gain depening on how far you go). It's a beautiful hike, and can get crowded especially on a nice weekend so get there early!"
"Great hike! The trailhead is located at the edge of the Shenandoah National Park, so I wasn't sure which entry pass to get ($30 vehicle entry vs. $15 hike/bike-in entry). I purchased the vehicle entry pass but arrived at the trailhead before the park Rangers at 7:30am on a Saturday. We got back to the trailhead just before noon. The main parking lot and the overflow parking that you have to pay for, were completely full up."
"Great place for a hike and swim if you take the cedar falls path (left) Expensive entry with limited parking. Google maps tells you it's located on someone's private land but just keep going about 1/4 mile further and you'll find it. Hike is moderate to get to the good falls. Lots of people on the trail today. Pretty clean, very little trash around. Definitely need hiking or trail shoes, do not recommend with walking shoes, Crocs or flipflops as some tried with. Came across a small snake and some deer, lots of bugs, bring spray. Portapoties are available but smell a bit rough. Very little cell service if any, be prepared. Bring lots of water and whatever you need. Expect 2-3 hr minimum if you plan to see the bigger falls and walk fast."
"This is a moderate hike. It’s 9 miles around however the first three miles are tough. I only did the three miles and it was enough for me. The park rangers are very friendly and offer great advise. They will tell you everything that you need to know. Bring lots of water and a camera for pictures. Ideal for swimming but make sure you go early. We went and got there around 8am. By the time we came back around 12:30 pm, the main parking lot and the overflow parking lot were completely packed."
