The Flats at West Village

"I think the flats is a very clean place with great amenities. The price is very reasonable compared to other student living options. The front desk staff are also very friendly, and maintenance arrives promptly and does effective work."

"I currently live here and so far so good! My apartment is facing the train so I hear it all the time, but its something you get used to and doesn't really become too much of a bother after a while. My apartment is nice (though the floors were a little sticky when I walked in for the first time). The unit I have a extremely large which I love, so I have ample amount of space to walk around. The only problem I've encountered is being able to hear the people above me walk around sometimes, but that's also a given when you're not on the top floor."

"Cannot Recommend. Pros: bedroom and connected bathroom which is convenient. Convenient location to grounds (for certain academic buildings) but no UTS buses run by. Close to corner and downtown. Maintenance crew were always professional, courteous, and did good work. Building is fairly safe and secure. Pool and grill equipment is nice. Fully furnished, free internet, study rooms, and utilities included are very convenient and mess things to worry about. Keep in mind however these arent really pluses, you are paying a lot of money to live here and these all SHOULD be adequate. There arent any pros outside of what you are paying for Cons: money hungry establishment that banks on college kids not knowing any better. When I resigned my lease, they immediately tried to raise my rent AFTER I signed. After I explained to them why they could not do that, they relented and tried to make it seem like they were doing me a favor. Gym equipment was in poor condition for most of my 2 year stay (smith machine and pulley machine in the back were damaged). They allowed a parking garage elevator to remain permanently broken for most of the school year into the summer ignoring numerous resident complaints to fix it (these are the only elevators that go to the top floors). The extra wait time really adds up when trying to get to class on time, and made moving out a hassle! Before this, one of the two parking garage elevators would break almost daily, some weekends there was no parking garage elevator access at all. If you had a disability, oh well because there was no urgency to fix this. If you were parked on bottom levels and couldnt take stairs or lived on the very top floors…oh well. On the other hand, they would tow here relentlessly, that’s something they would always find a sense of urgency to do. And you have to pay for visitor passes so sorry if you want to have friends/family come visit. Upon my move out, they kept my deposit and charged me for something I put a work order in to fix (they didnt fix it but told me it wouldnt be a problem). The price to live here is not worth the hassles that come with it. I should have moved out after my 1st year but I was traveling for internships…lesson learned. If you take nothing else away from this, look how many likes the negative reviews get vs the positive ones"

"My daughter is a student at UVA and moved into The Flats this past August. Her apartment is gorgeous with nice floors, large kitchen, nice appliances, big bathrooms, washer/dryer and a nice view of the courtyard from her balcony. This Flats also has great amenities and the view of the mountains from the pool area is beautiful. My daughter is extremely happy living here."
