Reviews of North Woods
"I emailed about the repairs in my new apartment and everything was taken care of when I arrived from work. All the damaged was repaired working and fixed. great job from maintenance team of northwoods!"
"We lived at Northwoods for 15 months. We rented the classic 1.5 bathroom 2 bedroom townhome. During that time, we came to absolutely hate the place and couldn't wait to move out. 1. Its extremely expensive for what it is: The apartments were built in the 1970s and it feels like they have not been renovated or even cleaned since. Holes in the wall are poorly patched up, the laminated floors are horrible, the carpet is horrible, the stairs are so dangerous that both my husband and I (in our 20s and 30s) fell several times coming down, the heating and cooling is so inefficient that the second bedroom was always really hot and the electric bill was always high. There is no pantry in the kitchen, there's limited cabinets and we had to buy our own microwave. 2. Poorly maintained: The maintenance man tries his best to help but he has his hands tied behind his back. The apartments are barely maintained. They do their best to squeeze every last penny out of an apartment before they invest into maintenance. We had to clean our own gutters because our living room kept flooding from poorly cleaned gutters. Our tub had a giant sticker like patch on it that accumulated mold and couldn't be properly cleaned. We discovered it was hiding a series of cracks on the bottom that caused our downstairs bathroom to flood. Our drier was not properly installed, and so the exhaust was coming out into the kitchen and destroyed the cheap laminated floor until we noticed that was the problem. The downstairs ceilings had cracks and marks of water damage. The ceiling on top of our living room was actually bowing out downwards from age and likely water damage. 3. Wifi: You wont be able to get actual fast internet no matter how much money you pay because the building is simply so old it doesn't support fast internet. So if you work from home, reconsider. 4. Its ugly: There is very little natural light that comes into the apartments. They second bedroom does not have a light, except a small bulb in the closet. This room is always hot, there is no ventilation, and only has a small window. It feels more like a closet. Our place was simply not well taken care of, the mirrors and doorknobs were splashed with paint, the counters in the kitchen were dirty and cheap. 5. Amenities: They use an app in order to allow you to access what they call amenities, including pool and gym. They will give you 1 app installation for free and then they make you pay for any additional apps you need to install, so if there are several people in your household you'll need to pay just to be able to access the amenities that are already included in your rent. Besides that, the gym is terrible. We tried using the treadmills several times but they wouldn't work or you had to restart them just to be able to use them. The dog park is also a joke. It was constantly covered in dog poop, as was the rest of the property. People don't pick up after their dogs and the dog poop stations are not cleaned often enough such that we ended up just piling dog poop on top of the trashcan because its so full. 6. Parking: The place is simply not safe. They charge you for parking and force you to follow parking rules but don't provide a safe place for you to park your vehicle. We heard of cars being broken into constantly while we were there. When we signed out lease, they were advertising that we wouldn't need to pay for parking because they had plenty of it, and then two months or so before our move out date they started charging for parking and requiring stickers and threatening with towing your vehicle. Overall this place should rent for no more than $1100 for the 2 bedroom townhome. We were paying roughly $1700 for a small poorly maintained townhome that we hated. We now pay a couple hundred $ more for a bigger, much much nicer apartment."
"I recently experienced a very stressful situation at North Woods due to a fire in the townhome next to mine. It was NOT due to any negligence on the part of North Woods, its owners, management or the property being somewhat older. The team at North Woods reacted swiftly and with great care. The maintenance manager was concerned that I wasn’t out of the building and when he heard all the people were out he went into my smoke filled townhouse because he did not hear that our dogs were out of the home safely. He took some flack for this from the Fire Chief and a police officer but said he would do it again. After calling my kids home so we were together, the Regional Manager realized I was going into shock and helped me go to the clubhouse to get warm and regroup myself. The Maintenance manager, John and Leasing Manager, Peyton, descended on me in the clubhouse, wrapped their arms around me and honestly just took care of me. My kids and I moved on to a hotel, where we were for some time. John worked very hard to get a new townhouse available for my family as soon as possible. He even remembered all of the accommodations he put in my original home and set the new home the same way. There is a new Property Manager, which in general holding on to property manager’s at North Woods has been a little problematic. Mandy, the new Property Manager, has been so helpful with transitioning to the new townhouse, understanding it is taking time to get rid of items and making sure my lease worked with the payment system. I seldom respond to surveys regarding anything. I find them aggravating and I don’t care to do them. But the team North Woods has now, Mandy, Peyton, John, Reese and Mr. Chris, are an amazing team. They do everything within their power to make sure they are listening to the tenants, people are happy and they are so friendly and approachable. I am still struggling with the aftermath of the fire that I or North Woods had nothing to do with, but there couldn’t be a stronger, more caring team here now."
"Management and their maintenance team communicate poorly and then try to blame tenants for the issues that come up. When we first moved in we had maintenance at the apartment several times a week for mold, electric issues, water leaks, and several other issues. Maintenance refused to recaulk the bathtub until the supervisor was brought in because of a mess left in our kitchen after the washer flooded the apartment. It's usually a 1 in 10 chance for maintenance to show up when a request is put in and there is rarely follow up on any visit. They have also been asked multiple times to schedule a time with us because of our pets and they have not reached out once to do so. Instead they just show up and make a mess of the apartment and have nearly let both of our cats out multiple times. Whenever we have taken a question or maintenance request to the office after not hearing anything, we are often met with "well I'm new here so I don't know" and the problem is rarely resolved."
"UPDATE: not quiet, the place is a constant construction zone, units are currently under renovation. Roofs are also being replaced, with zero warning to residents. I've had workers on my roof for four days! One of which was Halloween, kids were trying to trick or treat around construction equipment. So if you are wanting quiet, now is not a good time to lease here. Original review: Moved to this complex a little less than a week ago from Austin, TX. Loving all the greenery! So far the complex is very quiet, and all appliances in the apartment in good working order. Most rooms don't have ceiling lights, so we made sure to unpack the lamps first. Application and moving process had a few hiccups - The apartment we'd signed for wouldn't be ready in time, so another lease had to be signed (requiring some last minute phone calls and new contract signings with the moving companies). But it all worked out fine! The office staff has been pleasant and responsive to our many questions."
