"In my experience, it is far worth the money to not use a third party. Unfortunately my company is using this third party. I am looking to drop this health insurance with my company. I use United Healthcare for my dental insurance and I can go directly to thier website and acces all the details. This is something that I have been unable to do with Care First third party Administrators."
"Their system of placing you on hold, having you call back multiple times when trying to deal with an issue, asking you to leave messages and wait for a call back, and writing of letters, to dispute incorrect charges are all huddles there to make it harder for them to have to actually help you. Their website says they are an 11-time honoree as one of the World's Most Ethical Companies - what a joke."
"If your employer happens to be using CareFirst Administrator, you will be out of luck. After experiences with other employer sponsored insurers, my experience has been underwhelming at best and frustrating as the norm. They use a 3rd party to oversee all charges and will essentially force your hand to be involved to ensure that your benefits are upheld and out of pocket costs are not raised without justification (i.e. lab tests, specialist visits, etc. etc.) Moreover, their employee portal does not even offer a contact number or manner to quickly reach individuals for clarification. Expect long waits on the phone, multiple transfers, and then "per our policy" ....regardless of the terms of agreement with the employer plan."
"I would give this company a 0 if I could. Several patients need to have services and no one picks up for benefits, eligibility and preauthorization check. Every single day it says high call volume and to call back. You can call back several times throughout the day and it's the same every single time. Their website does not help in any way, shape, or form. Its terrible. How are patients supposed to know what their out of pocket cost are and if their medical services would be covered. There is a pandemic going on and people are barely getting by. They cant afford to have services done that needs to be done for life threatening issues and then find out later(after service is done) it's not covered. Worst insurance company ever!!"
"Carefirst says they are “helping” during the covid pandemic.....THAT HAS NOT BEEN OUR EXPERIENCE! We are a small business thats been with Carefirst BCBS for 35 years. We have encountered exorbitant and unjustified charges for outrageous reasons during the pandemic. Our attempts to discuss the charges or appeal them have been met with the blanket answer of, “its corporate policy”. Carefirst has become another mega enterprise that cares nothing about their members/customers. They have become a monopoly of the most criminal kind. Its time for corporate giants to be held accountable to the consumer that made them. Do not use Carefirst if you can avoid it."
