NowCare - First Colonial 1168 First Colonial Road, Virginia Beach, VA 23454

"I went to this urgent care on a Sunday evening as I was feeling horrible. Upon entering I asked for a mask and was given one. I had a horrible cough and my throat was killing me. I had already taken a Covid test which was negative and I had a flu shot so I thought for sure I must have strep. I arrived at 6:40 and they close at 8. At 7:45 I was taken into a room. I explained the situation and my concerns. The nurse treated me very respectfully and did both a Covid, flu, and strep cultures. 10 minutes later, the door opened, the Dr passed me a note around the door and yelled to me from the other side that I was positive for flu and that she needed to know which pharmacy to send a prescription to. Also that I was free to go. I walked out to leave and asked a question which she again yelled to me from another room. The next day I received my after visit summary that said I was seen and assessed. I was given directions for follow up, and where to go should I have any further issues. None of which happened. I saw the nurse, the Dr never entered the room, couldn’t tell you what I looked like, much less what I sounded like or addressed any of my other concerns. The only advice I was given was “no work until Wednesday, pick up Tamiflu prescription, and take warm showers”. I am a nurse and at no time did I share this information . I work with Bayview Physicians in my day to day job. I understand not wanting to be exposed to the flu, but at the end of the day, we have jobs taking care of sick people. We minimize our risk but not at the expense of taking care of our patients, treating them as human beings, and listening to their concerns. This was the worst experience as a patient- the billing should be for a nurse visit, and the MD (Dr Li) should be ashamed of the care she provided or rather lack therof, and the note is a complete fabrication of my visit. I have never been so disappointed in a medical professional in my 18 years of nursing. The rest of the staff was courteous and professional."

"The service was good. However, they should really have two doctors on site for this location. I had to wait two and three-quarter hours to be seen for a virus. Please consider Getting an additional doctor"

"I arrived at the First Colonial office around when they first opened 9am. Plenty of parking and the waiting’s room is very spacious. The receptionist was very nice. Paperwork was very fast as a new patient (remember to bring your ID and insurance.) My copay was $25 with insurance. They take cash, credit and debt card. My wait was not that long at all under an 1hr which is what you would expect at a busy Urgent Care. I noticed many phone calls where the receptionist had to tell people appointments are not required. This is a walk-in Urgent Care so you don’t need an appointment nor will they make one for you as it’s pretty much first come first serve. Also they email you a link same day to set up your online account which has everything you would want to see (test results, doctors/nurses notes etc.) They use the Healow app which is nice to have on your phone. The nurse I saw before the doctor was very friendly and funny, she made the experience much better. The doctor I saw was very nice and took his time for any questions I had. Overall I had a great experience and would go back if needed."

"I went to NowCare - First Colonial for a chest x-ray right before a doctor appointment. I didn’t realize he wanted me to get one before this appointment, and didn’t have it done more in advance as I usually do. The check in was fast and I barely waited at all before being called for the x-ray. The technician was super nice and extremely professional. She reviewed the pictures to make sure they were good, told me they would be immediately available for my doctor, and sent me on my way. I highly recommend this NowCare location!"

"I feel very assured when I see Dr. Dopp got treatment. He is very patient, exact and explains very thoroughly the medicine I am to take. My only complaint is that I had to wait for 2 1/2 hours. This is a very busy Urgent Care with only one doctor and one nurse. More personnel need to be hired to serve this practice. The receptionist was very helpful, and I appreciated the extra care she gave me!"
