"I have found the place that is perfect for me, SENTARA THERAPY SUFFOLK YMCA. Dr. Satra, chiropractor, and Rachael, PT are AMAZING!!!! Together they created a treatment plan that is providing me with the relief that I've long for for years. They are courteous, knowledgeable, informative, caring, and professional....they are the best in their medical field. The representatives at the front desk Dewell and Diane, were also courteous. I'm so grateful to have found Sentara Therapy. It's life-changing!"
"Daughter just had knee surgery a week ago. We arrived early to fill out paperwork. Receptionist seemed unhappy and was speaking very mumbled. 25 Minutes after scheduled time I requested that they take her back so that she could elevate her leg. She was done 15 minutes before 7 and was told by receptionist that she would need to call in the morning to make the next appointment because she had shut the computers down. Keep in mind we were there for an hour and a half. I really hope this gets better. My daughter did state that physical therapy went well and she felt like she was heard and was given goals to reach."
"To quote my husband, “When it comes to medical services, I expect excellence”. There are services that can be compromised on but when it comes to medical care, and specifically recovery from an injury when the care received can impact whether full use of a limb can be achieved, excellence is the only option I will select. This facility did not meet that goal and I would not recommend this facility to anyone else. My husband went to this physical therapy location for a few months following an injury. At first, we had positive experiences at the clinic. The staff was very friendly and always upbeat which is very helpful for those coming in. The location was clean and the equipment was good quality. Initially, the attention was one-on-one and the therapist would work directly with my husband on his exercises and provide manual manipulation and stretches after each session. After the first few weeks, however, the stretches were no longer offered and he was more often than not relegated to an entry level staff person who just seemed to read off of a list of exercises for him to do but didn’t have the knowledge or experience to know when they were appropriate and if he was doing them right (it’s important in PT to have a qualified person attending because incorrect form might mean pain or not be progressive in treatment). Additionally, throughout the few months of his treatment here, many questions relating to the injury and treatment plan were asked and the answers we received were many times not very helpful. I don’t expect anyone to know everything, but when questions about the treatment plan and muscular anatomy (why is this hurting/what is causing this pain) were lacking, for me it is a cause for alarm. A month and a half or so into treatment, my husband developed pretty bad impingement issues. He brought this up with his therapist at the Sentara PT center and they just told him to just keep doing the same exercises and it’ll resolve by itself. When they observed him working through the exercises the only thing they did was comment “oh, that looks really painful” but didn’t offer any additional support. After this incident, we felt that the staff was not invested in my husband's recovery. Because of that incident coupled with the lack of quality one-on-one attention and unsatisfactory responses to questions we felt they should be able to answer, we lost faith in this location. At this point, we left the Sentara facility and went to another location (not Sentara) that was highly recommended. At the very first visit, the therapists there evaluated him and immediately were concerned with the pain and impingement issue. They worked with him to manually manipulate (working through scar tissue, etc) in an effort to reduce his pain and increase his range of motion. He left the new facility after only the first visit in significantly less pain and with more range of motion than when he left Sentara only a few days before."
"Had hip arthroscopy done, very back and forth for 2 weeks leading up to the surgery attempting to make sure the referral for PT was in my record as it was already approved from the insurance company. Would not let me book appointments ahead of time until seen for the first PT visit, which I guess is fine in most cases but I am unable to drive for a month due to this surgery and the surgeon wanted me in PT 2-3 times a week. My second and third PT sessions were a week apart due to not being able to schedule ahead of time. For the first 3-4 visits every time I went to speak with someone at the front desk they would mention my information wasn’t in (or wasn’t in correctly). I had to email over the treatment plan that my surgeon had sent me also for the PT plan on my first day because they had not received it. Two sessions later I had to ask the Physical Therapist if they had my treatment plan from the surgeon because I was continually being asked what I was allowed to do/not allowed to do. Treatment plan was not attached to my record so I had to email it over again. Scheduled appointments are now being rescheduled, causing for inconsistencies in my treatment plan and difficulty scheduling rides and working around going back to work. Hoping for things to improve. Treatment staff does have a very friendly positive attitude."
"I cannot give enough stars for this place and those who work here! Samantha Harris helped me recover from orthoscopic surgery in April. I wound up having to get total knee replacement in October and returned to this location for therapy. Yesterday, Shane McAlphin saved my life! I thought the redness, swelling and tingling in my operative leg was part of recovery. He asked how I was doing and when I told him, he immediately evaluated my leg. He said it is my job to send you to ER because I have suspicion you have blood clots. Ultrasound at ER showed two blood clots, one blocking my femoral vein. I am in debt to the wonderful care of Shane and the staff! I will always go here for physical therapy when I need it!"
