Dana Soper

"I love to give credit where it's due, but I'm also honest where it's due. Here we go- I was a patient for a short-time under the psychiatric care of Dr. Soper when I was just moving back to VA from another state and she was part of a group practice. I presented with severe anxiety symptoms and feelings of depression. Mind you, I had been under psychiatric care for YEARS with other doctors, and they gave me the medication that I needed to be functional in life! Not Dr. Soper. She swiftly denied my anxiety medicine, which I'd been prescribed to have on hand from doctors who were empathetic about the struggle, citing- "I look at it like wine. You drink it and it makes you feel better for a little while, then you need more." UHHHHmmmmmMMMM......... isn't that how ALLLL medications work??? They wear off, and you take it again. Sometimes you even need to switch: blood pressure medicine, diabetes meds, etc. They ALL work like that. So, I'm guessing that she was worried that I was a drug-seeker based on some other comments that she made, and cut. me. OFF. My anxiety was devastating. Come to find out, you know what the issue was (in which a whole psychiatrist- being Dr. Soper COMPLETELY missed)?? I HAVE ADHD. The anxiety was coming from the ramifications of my ADHD symptoms and the results in life (running late all of the time and being reprimanded, though I couldn't help it; my space staying cluttered no matter how I tried to clean/organize; being labeled 'flighty, flaky, spacy, Swiss-cheese for brains, etc' as "jokes" from other people that I didn't find funny when I REALLY was trying...... overdue bills, taxes and everything in between because my f'd up executive function....... or dysfunction, rather). So, I was left out there with no treatment for the ADHD (I highly doubt that she would've helped me with this, either, only gaslit me probably, and I am under the care of a much better doctor these days) AND having panic attacks because she cut me off from my anxiety medicine. It was destroying my life and I. was. a. MESS! She didn't care. I got a letter from her one day saying that she wasn't practicing with that establishment anymore. Initially, I was disappointed, but you know how something that seems to be a huge inconvenience at the time sometimes turns out to be the best thing that's happened to you??? They say that God works in mysterious ways, and this was one of those times. She could use more empathy before patients are placed in her care. I've no doubt that my care was likely to continue to be subpar had I still been her patient. I probably STILL won't have known that I have ADHD (I was diagnosed as a child but had totally forgotten- my mom refused to let anyone medicate me, but I needed it! Not according to Dr. Soper, though, even though I've been doing SOOO much better with it under the care of my now-doctor). You've been sufficiently warned with all of the details here. I don't know if she's bored by now or think that everyone is a drug seeker (like *I* can help it if the medicine that I need is a narcotic or controlled IF I NEED IT!), but there's a high probability your care will be subpar, because she doesn't fully consider the big picture, is stingy to give you the meds that you need even if you legitimately need them, and overall, she doesn't care. I wouldn't, but book at your own risk!!!!!"
