VCU Health Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery

"Dr. Luppens was great and so were the staff I've encountered. (FYI he is leaving - congratulations!). My single visit to the Stony Point location left such a billing nightmare I will completely avoid anything related to VCU Health at all costs imaginable and has surely caused more forehead wrinkles than it smoothed out. The wrong code was used (for cosmetic botox!) and it has taken MONTHS and repeated calls/emails/messages and it is still not resolved. I was charged over $1,000 for a $250 procedure (25 units at $10 each which I paid the day of). I was also told around this same time this same mistake was made repeatedly. If you had this problem too,sorry the medical system sucks (especially VCU’s system of fixing their own giant mistakes)."

"I first had my consultation for a Breast Reduction in December of 2019 with Dr. Kale. I have had back and neck problems for a while. He was very professional and knowledgeable and explained everything from beginning to end as what I should expect. We went over what size I wanted to go to, recovery time,etc. He submitted everything over to insurance and they covered it. Fast forward to surgery day, everything went great. Went back to my first POV and the results were AMAZING!!!!!! He got me down to a perfect size and shaped them perfectly. If you are ever in need of a Breast reduction etc Dr.Kale is the guy. His staff are very nice and help you with any questions you have."

"After a breast cancer diagnosis, I consulted with Dr. Kale. His vast knowledge and communication skills (a professor!) won me over on the first visit. After his comprehensive presentation of all options, I decided on DIEP flap surgery in conjunction with a mastectomy and lymph node biopsy. Dr. Kale performed the DIEP surgery which is quite complex requiring microsurgical training. His skills are masterful. Aftercare was great. He and the nurses were so very thorough both with my follow up visits and continually answering my questions. Tina and Tiffany were skilled, warm and supportive (and patient!) The office staff rounded out a wonderful, professional team who cared for me at my most vulnerable time."

"This is not a review of our doctor, who we like and who seems very competent, but of the terrible scheduling and lackadaisical office staff. I've had the sincere displeasure of having two appointments at the Forest Ave location and I'll be sure those are the last. Both visits involved wait times of roughly an hour and a half from our scheduled time, and for what amounted to a few minutes total of the doctor's time. This appears to be not a fluke but simply how they do business here, and I'm done with having my time wasted."
